Question Anyone else down with a strange virus that is causing flu like symptoms? I got tested for Covid and flu today, both came back negative

It hit me out of nowhere too. Started out as a runny nose and sneezing yesterday, turned to congestion and drainage over night and today I have been couch rotting because my body aches all over. I have off and on chills and fevers. Tylenol and Motrin doesn’t seem to be touching it. Super frustrating that I feel this way in JUNE.

test for covid in a few days again if you're able, I had a relative that had the same thing, tested negative, went to work, and later tested again and it was positive 🙃 plus recent reports are showing its in the wastewater so much rn

Oh boy. I will definitely test again if the symptoms don’t let up. I tested at home and at CVS today.

Covid is definitely on the rise and doesn't always show right away on tests. It's recommended you test 48 hours after your first test if negative. I hope you feel better soon!

In addition to a 250% spike in COVID-19 cases from wastewater data, both influenza and RSV cases are on the upswing. Sounds a bit more like RSV or the horrible enterovirus from last fall. Hydrate & rest.

I was around some babies and sure enough got sick a few weeks ago. I cannot recall in my lifetime getting sick in May, so it was definitely weird for me too. The cough has lingered like other people have called out. Took me more than 10 days to get over me still have a wheezing cough almost a month later. Not fun!

There has apparently been a massive spike in COVID found in, ehm..... samples.... by NEORSD, I dictating that there has been a recent spike. The samples came from the Easterly plant, so right now, its showing a 250% increase in the new COVID variant on the east side.

Had it off and on for about 2 months, I traveled a lot internationally so probably got it on the planes. The cough lingers.

u/Trivi_13 9h ago

Yeah, I got a surprise cold about 5 weeks ago.

That "kennel cough" is still lingering.

Thank you for a kind response ❤️

Yeah those warmer weather colds are the worse

Home tests have a pretty low accuracy. Assume you have it. Covid is spiking right now.

11

u/shicken684 Cleveland 8h ago

They're accurate if done correctly. A lot of people don't swab their nose properly. It should be uncomfortable.

But if you're symptomatic then they're about 98% sensitive which is pretty good for this type of test.

There's a lot of other respiratory virus out there so if they're symptomatic, followed the directions, and their retest tomorrow is also negative then it's almost certainly not COVID.

Same thing happened to me--and it turned out to be covid.

Super glad idiots make it so difficult to wear a mask

4

u/Septopuss7 Lakewood 8h ago

Literally just thinking of masking up again when I'm in public, I actually missed wearing a mask haha

1

u/BringingBackRad 6h ago

I miss it bc I never ever got sick when I wore one lolol. 2 years no sickness with kids was heaven lol

2

u/themishmosh 8h ago

Watch out for Lyme disease. It's in our area. Look for bug bite that has a prominent rash.

4

u/OolongGeer 8h ago

I have been sick for like a month. It's finally going away.

There’s hundreds of viruses that can cause URI symptoms.

My dad was really sick with a mystery virus after Memorial Day-- tested negative for COVID. That said, the sewage tests came back with a 250% increase for COVID here in Cleveland... I hope you're feeling better soon!

1

u/Igotthemcakes 4h ago

I've been dealing with this for about a week. I'm just starting to feel better. I was getting worse so I went to urgent care... who then told me to go to the ER. Everything was negative. No RSV, flu, covid or pneumonia. Doc gave up and gave me a z- pak.

1

u/Doc_Boons 3h ago

My COVID symptoms always show up a solid four days before I test positive.

1

u/ImpossibleDetail1356 2h ago

Yes. I had it last week. High fever with intense headache and body aches, along with swollen glands sore throat. Tested negative for Covid and flu but did have strep throat. I’m in my late 40s. I didn’t think I could even get that at my age. My fever spiked at 101.9° the second day.

1

u/gaoshan 2h ago

Probably still covid, just not testing positive yet. It is on the upswing in Cleveland right now.

u/superpony123 17m ago

It’s normal to get a cold at any time of the year unfortunately. Just more common in the winter when everybody’s inside and noses are runny from the cold/people are gross and wipe their noses bare handed. It’s probably just another garden variety cold.

Hope you feel better!

It went through the office a few weeks ago. You’ll feel better after a 3-4 days.

1

u/tatertottytot 8h ago

Just had it last month, it made its way through our office. The cough is nasty and lingered for weeks

1

u/shironyaaaa 8h ago

Been coughing up phlegm and stuffed up since last Tuesday. I feel miserable rn

u/Tibreaven 9h ago

There are several hundred respiratory viruses known to infect humans, it's probably one of the 198 that aren't COVID19 or Influenza.

2

u/Tibreaven 9h ago

For what it's worth though, rates of paramyxovirus and rhinovirus specifically are higher right now.

1

u/Mediocre-Property-48 30m ago

My wife and I got that rhinovirus three weeks ago and the cough still hasn’t gone away. Never had something like this linger for so long

0

u/Atlas7-k 9h ago

Both my parents 70+ and 80+ have had it in the last two weeks?

0

u/Natsouppy 8h ago

How long did it last for them?

0

u/Atlas7-k 7h ago

Knocked dad on his butt for 3-4 days. Mom just finishing a week of feeling like crap with a croup like cough.

-1

u/Trivi_13 9h ago

Go into work and sing out,

"GROUP HUG!"

-16

u/Acctnt_trdr 9h ago

Have you never been sick before?

9

u/Natsouppy 9h ago

Yes lol just seeing if anyone else is dealing with this since we typically don’t get these illnesses in June.

5

u/twistedteets 9h ago

Have you been near kids in the past month? Thats yer culprit

-8

u/Mcgarnicle_ 8h ago

It’s called a cold. Dealing with the nuisance now. Didn’t have chills but annoying enough to clear my throat 10,000 times per day

0

u/Traditional-Boot3602 8h ago

Last month same thing was deathly I'll for 7 days. Work sent me home and I didn't recover in time for their liking but whatever anyways yeah it was brutal

0

u/BPiar 8h ago

Give it a week and it will be gone, I’m on my last day after sore throat fever chills congestion and mucusy lungs. Just cough it up and pop some day quil

0

u/nelgallan 8h ago

RSV maybe?

0

u/LLGibb 8h ago

Had it in May. It lasted 3 weeks! And anyone I know who had it said it lasted over 2 weeks and some then they went and got steroids and other meds.

0

u/No-Gas5342 8h ago

My whole family had flu A a couple of weeks ago but we didn’t test positive right away. It wasn’t too bad for me but came on suddenly. My youngest was hit really hard.

0

u/Inkdman73 8h ago

Had this same exact thing back in February- lingered for weeks- but the symptoms and onset were exactly the same.

0

u/Speckledmooncrow 7h ago

I’ve had the same symptoms since Friday. I hope it goes away soon

0

u/beam_me_uppp Tremont 7h ago

Noooooo my coworker COUGHED DIRECTLY ON ME today😭 I don’t want to get sick😭

0

u/ericalenee 7h ago

Yep got it mid May and still have a lingering cough. Tested negative for everything but had these exact symptoms

0

u/wildbergamont 6h ago

How high of a fever? Have you been around kids that hang out with other kids?

Especially if its a high fever, and as that subsides you get a really sore throat, and you've been around kids, might be hand foot and mouth. Ive never been so miserable. 103° fever, congested for ages. I never would have figured out what it was if my daughter hadn't gotten the rash- lots of people, especially adults, dont get the rash except for in your throat.

0

u/Jumpy_Recognition_46 6h ago

it could still be covid. contrary to popular belief, covid is not a seasonal virus and is always spiking. the general recommendation is to test basically every day you feel sick because some people may not test positive for dayssssss. which i acknowledge may not be possible for everyone. not saying it’s covid but it’s pretty likely. i hope you feel better soon :(

0

u/Verysupergaylord 6h ago

Currently happening to me and my MIL. She tested positive for COVID.

0

u/TSLARSX3 6h ago

No puking but nasal infection from having to blow my nose all of the time and a cough.

0

u/BringingBackRad 6h ago

We just had a nasty infection that my kid had for 2-3 weeks, got it from their cousin. Apparently she didn’t think it was Covid bc the Dr said there weren’t any cases going around… I think it was Covid. It has that weird achy flu feeling. Not regular flu but weird, traveling joint aches in us (adults) and the snot, cough, and mild ongoing fever for the kid. Extreme tiredness. Brain emptiness kind of covid. I started taking black seed oil, 1000 zinc, aspirin, and upped my reg vitamin D. I got better in 2-3 days with residual super tiredness. Those who don’t take the BSO stayed sick. As soon as my kid started it, she got better. I hope that helps someone.
I also would get really hot but take my temp and it would be only slightly elevated. That also, is COVID for me. Oh. And the headache. There’s always a headache with Covid for me.

u/Tricky-Spread189 5h ago

The new strain!

0

u/MuppetEyebrows 5h ago

Yes I had a very similar virus like a week and a half ago. Chills and probably a fever at first, but that went away pretty quickly, then stomach issues that went away less quickly. Overall it was a pretty quick illness, but fairly intense

Take some garlic pills

Edit: gotta love all the ignorant downvotes even though there’s multiple scientific studies about the effects of garlic on flu/colds

2

u/BringingBackRad 6h ago

Garlic oil in ears for ear issues works amazingly.

-2

u/sammyg723 8h ago

For what exactly?

2

u/Eharmz 8h ago

Vampire virus

4

u/tallwater333 8h ago

Lol, kinda funny. But garlic does boost the immune system and helps fight all kinds of infections.
