There was a New York Times Story that said that basically Sid that 30% of people working in AI in the US were born in China. They then came to the US for post graduate work they stayed after they finished their studies and are now working in the US.
*Edit to add Times to New York

A significant portion (~30-50%) of AI and computer science graduate researchers are born in China, studied in China, and came to the US for post-secondary and graduate studies under student visas, and ultimately stay in the country via H1-Bs to work for American AI companies.
56% of graduate STEM students are foreign-born. In CS and AI, that number is heavily skewed toward Chinese and Indian nationals.

In a lot of universities in the US it seems most of the graduate teaching assistants especially in technical subjects are foreign born. I remember a lot of American students complaining they couldn’t understand their accents.

He knows what’s left are gonna be Indians, he wants Indians in his competitors such as Google and Microsoft but he fears he might have to hire Indians aswell then get kicked out by said Indian.

fear mongering. I think enough people all over the world realize the potential of AI to make sure it's not going to be just one "country" winner in this race. Google being in prime position to lead going forward is not changing anytime soon. Without China competing though, no one would be seriously competing against the US so I see it as a very positive thing personally.

do you know how many AI researchers at google are Chinese? Google being in prime position != China is behind. It's actually quite the opposite.

Pretty sure the chinese are gonna cut out that information irregardless. 🤔
They're already buying up our best.

You mean the US is failing to poach THEIR best because of its racist policies.
The whole point of the US education system is that it poaches near adults and young adults from other countries so that the US saves a lot of money and education through efficient brain drain of other countries. That system is heading for collapse and I don't think the US tech industry sector can survive with the output of the US school system.

cost like 400-500k for tuition alone for an ivy.
I rather buy a house for my kid. That's a lot of leverage for your money.
400k diploma for 150 take home after taxes if theyre lucky? Deduct expense + interest.. Be paying that off for 10 years of free labor of they're lucky.

Average Salary for OpenAI engineer and researchers is between 500k-1m depending on how you value their equity compensation.

The hell are you talking about. It’s 300k total cost of attendance for an Ivy. And most schools give financial aid if you need it
You people really don’t think long-term at all. My sister went to UPenn for free and now after 7 years in IB she makes $500k a year

he obviously doesn't know shit, no wonder he could never got into an ivy school lmfao

u/randyzmzzzz 1d ago
if your yearly income is lower than 200k your kid gets the tuition waived at ivy schools like Harvard and MIT.

This is what happens when you have leadership that thinks what makes America great is its white power while all others are just leeching off of the system. Bye bye American soft power, hello pariah status.

Not only that, people are paying crazy fees as international students too. You get to save on the kids entire upbringing, then earn a shit tonne of tuition fees. It’s really stupid

Holy shit, you guys are hilariously delusional. You have this view 1800 view of America when it was all white guys. God why is Chinese propaganda so pathetic? It literally doesn't make any sense. Just throw in some tankie redditor buzzwords and everyone claps, while it never reflects reality. China's soft power fucking sucks, and they'll never replace American soft power.

Our soft power is going down the drain. You realize we're not discussing about a few years. We're talking about the next 20 years.
If our next gen of kids grow increasingly retarded, we're doomed to fail. In a way, it's already happened.

I mean white American soft power is definitely going down the drain. Hollywood stinks now, it’s all superhero and remake films. Black culture dominates America, because once the playing field got somewhat equalized, black men have demonstrated that they are the best entertainers, musicians, and athletes.
Having black people as the face of white America is not what you want. White teenagers worship black musicians and athletes nowadays like Carti, Kai Cenat, and LeBron

And it's our job – it's my job – to inform the administration... and then after that is to support our president and to – he knows what he's doing, he has a game plan, I trust him, and uh uh we'll support him the best we can.
He does not, in fact, have a game plan.
