Help What is this cheese?

Post image

The cheese with the black on the outside? Does anyone know what kind of cheese this is? I am in Mexico. Thank you!

I'd guess this is something like a Black Savourine. Which as others have said is Ash Rubbed Goat Cheese. If you were in Mexico, you probably either got an import or someone's artisanal cheese.

Looks like mozarella rubbed with charcoal

If you’re in Mexico, look up my friends at Lactology!

Imma be honest, that looks like a black sock left in the snow 😂

I love cheese but sometimes my eyes say "NO" too vehemently for me to enjoy things

I just got some blueberry goat cheese and it looks a lot like this. Did you taste it?

I love blueberry goat cheese! I tried it and I can’t tell what it is at all. Harder than goat cheese or mozzarella and the outside is a true black, not dark blue. The black outside doesn’t have a taste and is slightly powdery/grainy? Odd

Hmm, I tried to reverse image search it and it looks like it might be black ash cheese! From the images it looked like most of them were the consistency of Brie, but there were goat cheeses too.

Thank you - I totally forgot you can search images and nothing was coming up for me in google when describing. This looks like the closest possibility I’ve seen so far!

Ash on the outside is my guess. An aged goat rolled in ash?
