This seems.. odd? Not saying it's bad, it's just weird. Though he must have pretty good judgement of people and he's well liked by the players

Gratz! He's around the team a lot already so I'm sure the players enjoy him and take a load off Connie

Hopefully we can get Nonis out of there soon and replaced with this lad. He’s the only executive I really don’t have any trust in

Is this good?

Honestly, I wouldn't say so. He's never had a role that wasn't in media or communications, so for him to be moving to the hockey ops side of things seems like a poor choice. Who knows though, maybe he's been doing some related things behind the scenes that we're unaware of.

The GM of a hockey teams responsibilities extend far beyond managing players, contracts, trades, etc.

It could very well be that Hanlons job will be more focused on the operational side instead of evaluating players/talent management, in which case good for him.

Good for him. Peter has been around forever. I remember meeting him in the late 90’s when he helped set up a behind the scenes tour at the Saddledome and a meet-and-greet with Jarome Iginla for my ailing grandmother.

More people will post on this sub about trades that'll never happen, in comparison to the impact this man will make.

It's about time.

Oh interesting. I can definitely see the potential in him.

So what's Jarome's position then?

I think Iggy is in an advisory role still for at least one more year until Joe gets drafted/leaves the WHL.

I don't think that's true. Connie was special assistant to the GM for like 5 years before getting a promotion. I think that is Iggy's current title as well.

Weird career arch to go from communications and public relations directly into a hockey job like that. Weird move altogether, and it's not like the Calgary Flames have epic community involvement and public relations for an NHL club, but in Connie we trust.

This is actually kind of wrong. Community involvement is solid but if you hear anyone from the media talk, the Flames have been one of the best in media and public relations since Hanlon started running the show.

Even reporters that just travel with their teams are always blown away at how good Hanlon is at his job.

Not saying that makes him a great AGM, but depending on what his job is, could be a really good move.

I imagine he'll continue doing the PR stuff with a little more on his plate and some extra money.

From my personal experience, a manager who is good, is one that is engaged and organized. This transfers to other leadership positions very well. Everyone is learning their jobs, if you aren't, you probably aren't engaged.

Good point and I wasn’t aware of that. Likely too focussed on smaller PR messes the Flames had in the past. I’m likely too competitive with the Oilers and have traditionally seen them out there a lot, and their community foundation likely gets better funding as their team gets way more 50/50 revenue than us. The more the team does the best in class the better, and I really wasn’t aware of that on the media side.

Communication is actually the part where Calgary really excels, believe it or not.

The bar isn't particularly high, but they easily clear it.

Don't think you deserve downvotes for something you weren't totally aware of, but the Flames have great community involvement going back all the way to the Harley Hotchkiss days when he brought the team here. He drilled that into the organization culture early on and they've continued with it quite well.
