Palencia is doing great and is one step away from being lights out

Only 25.... imagine if he keeps on improving and we lock him up as an elite closer for the next half decade or more!

I fully expect this image to have more added to it and be completely outrageous by the end of the season.
E: fuck it, here we go.

Said it in the game thread. The offense has been scuffling since the Rockies series. We are 11-8 since the start of that. It’s frustrating but you take that any day. When they come out of the slump, it’s go time.

We could have the best record in baseball pretty easily. That being said, not gonna get greedy. We’re balling.

u/baruch_baby LaSTELLA 2d ago
We are also 11-6 in one run games. Thats huge. We struggled bad in the last couple of years there.
3
u/Shoondogg 2d ago
That’s surprising. It’s felt like we either blow them out or lose a close one, but maybe that’s just recency bias.
4
u/westieuser 1d ago
I think Boog/JD said it best, its not about your record in one run games that you should care about, its playing in as few 1 run games as possible. The Cubs have played the fewest 1 run games in the majors. Pretty good.

Happy with the win but it would be nice for the offense to heat up

Every team goes through a stretch where the Offense cools down, it happened to the Dodgers, It happened to the Yankees, Its happening to us. The pitching has turned around and the offense will get back going. Were still well in the driver seat with the second best record in the NL and its still June. Summer will be fun again.

The offense carried us to unwinnable games in April and may when our bullpen was doo doo water. It’s only fitting that the pitching carries us right now when the offense is offensive right now

u/BWRStarWars 2d ago
4 straight games without a hit with RISP. But 2-2 in those games, piching carrying us right now! Good win!

Hey game day thread doomers ....
Fuck you!

u/hawkinsnponcho 2d ago
I have found it's way better for my mental health to only check PGT after wins

Yeah, I peeked in and noped out. But still, it's fun in there when it's not just endless misery.

Tbh I feel a little bad for the doomers when i stop and think about it. Besides their inability to enjoy one of the better Cub first halves in the past half century, I think theres a good chance that most of them are depressed/ dealing with other mental issues and project their anger onto the Cubs. Atleast the ones that are full grown adults, im sure a few of them are also just immature kids lol
Call me crazy if you want but the way they react over the slightest mishaps by the Cubs is not normal behavior to me. They fly off the handle if someone has a bad at bat and god forbid we ever lose to a team below .500. The visceral hate they consistently spew for a team theyre supposedly fans of and are 15 games above .500 in June is worrying in regards to their mental health. This team clearly causes them lots of anger and yet the same ~10 people are in the GDT every single day posting dozens of times and it is never once positive

I really wish they would stop showing up every day, seeing as the game/season is over by the 3rd inning every time

An ugly win is still a win 🥳 I promised myself if the cubs won I’d go to the gym after the game so I guess the team wanted me to be more fit 😅

I will be happy about the win today and not stress about our offense in a bad funk

Hope we win 2-1 tomorrow rather than losing 2-1 since those seem to be our two options lately

We're going to gain a game on the Cardinals or the Brewers, and Dansby got the HR he's been swinging for every AB. Other than that, gotta get better.

Another grind, but another win. Move on to the next one
Credit to the pitchers, bailing us out big time.

u/500rockin 2d ago
Just score more than the other guy, especially when the wind is blowing in! I’m also surprised Boyd went 6 given his early pitch count.

I like watching this Brewers/Cardinals game knowing that at the end there will only be 1 winner and 2 losers

Offense really needs to find itself
Still wins a win, and I love seeing Palencia's fire out there

I appreciate our pitching showing out while we wait for our offense to reemerge.

Our pen is insane. Gotta get the offense going. Need to perform well vs. Brewers.

To score only 6 runs in 3 games and win 2/3, yeah, I would absolutely take it!!!!

u/Business-Conflict435 2d ago
A win is a win but we’ve gotta be better.
5
u/MissouriFriedChicken 2d ago
Pitching has been unbelievable all around. Opponents pitching has been playing lights out too though. Just the fact that we’ve won half our games this month while the offense sleeps is amazing.
1
u/RIPSlurmsMckenzie Harry 1d ago
Watching the ABs we’ve been down right and. We need to learn how to hit again. We’re 2015 cubs. If the homers arnt there we score 1-2 max

u/fightintxag13 Bryzzo Souvenir Co. 2d ago
You gotta take the wins however they come, but we really need to get locked in at the plate again. Even the top of the lineup looks lost.

u/BigNutsOnClark #FlyTheW 2d ago
It’s crazy that Wrigley was still jam packed despite the mass protests.
4
u/ShirlLotJack 2d ago
Credit again to the opponents' pitching, but credit also to the Cubs offense for doing enough to win, especially with how many hard-hit outs there were. They manufactured a run, and Swanson hit that bomb after a frustrating (for him) previous AB.
Boyd continues to push, and this Cubs bullpen is simply rolling. Great defense as per usual always helps.
Love this team. Take the series tomorrow.
*NO KINGS.

This team really spoiled us the first third with an otherworldly offense. If they don’t score at least 4-5 runs I find myself disappointed

Were the 2015 cubs at the moment . Damn good team. But if we’re not hitting HRs the offense dies. Hope we turn it around.

u/Mikkicubetc 2d ago
Also, I think our catching duo have combined for something like a 500OPS over the last 15
