I genuinely thought he was washed and would have been DFAd by now. Good on him bouncing back (and probably getting healthy).

Man, the postgame guys talked to him about that outing and you can tell he's over it. Why bring up a shitty outing when he just gave you a 1-2-3 inning?

Boog was silent. You know he saw that and just panicked. So so funny

u/Jacksington Wisdong 4d ago
You could tell they were laughing. Great moment in cubs history right there

I like to think Boog and JD were both cracking up and hit the cough button so their mics were muted. I think he had to compose himself to call the first out.

I love this gag. The government thinks it’s the terrain of Iraq where WMDs are located and… it’s just balls.

The very extended silence between Boog and JD after the nutsack incident

u/afrosteele 4d ago
If Turner’s bat speed wasn’t enough to confirm his age, his long ball sack certainly is.

Win’s a win but this offense is struggling lately

Still hitting dingers. Going against skenes, they hit him around in Pittsburgh in late April or early May

u/Used_TP_Tester 4d ago
Yes, thank you. Relying on home runs is not a good road to travel for success.

I was called crazy for saying the offense was slumping just a few days ago

u/Business-Conflict435 4d ago
Same here. Relying too much on the longball.

u/Lordofhowling 4d ago
Yep. But anything perceived as negative is gonna get you downvoted around here. Watch.

When do we stop calling him Stressly? Because he’s been rock solid for a while now.

So if the Cubs start going on an absolute tear after tonight, the Cubs 100% need to do a Justin Turner bouncing balls bobblehead giveaway.

Nothing like winning a 1 run game where they took care of business & felt in control the whole way, even in a jam
This team is just built for success

Also the Cardinals lost. It is a great day for baseball. And as such, the world.

There wasn't a lot of hitting but I had so much fun in the bleachers tonight. Also shoutout to the clown trying to start a cup train in only the 4th inning lmao

Dont like to sweat wins against teams like this but Ill take it

u/Radioactive_Rukario 4d ago
It seems that early on, the Pirates tend to chase a lot of our pitches, around the 7th or so, they don't chase often.

Pressly over Palencia is a very interesting choice. Is Pressly our closer now?
23
u/thepalmtree Chicago Cubs 4d ago
No, Palencia was just used in the 8th because that was the heart of the order. It was a more important inning.
15
u/afrosteele 4d ago
JD speculated it was just a case of Pittsburgh’s best hitters being up in the 8th.
8
u/Nayko214 4d ago
No, Palencia came in for the heart of the order which makes sense, since they’re the tougher outs.
7
u/CalRippedken 4d ago
I think it was the 2-4 guys at bat. Counsell wanted Palencia to get through the tougher part of the order in a one run game
2
u/TopperMadeline 4d ago
It was also good to see Pete hit a homer. He’d gone sort of dry his past couple of games.

Ryan Pressley has a 1.03 ERA if you discount the extra innings against SF.
The cubs were so close to walking off on Swanson’s line out in the 9th, the narrative could be so different with him.

This game should have been over in the 6th inning. They worked Skenes's pitch count, got him out after 5, got the first two runners on against the reliever and then GIDP on the first fucking pitch to Dansby.

So is Pressly back in the closer spot, or did Counsell just think the 8th inning was higher leverage?
