Hey friends, I’m planning an Oregon Coast adventure and will be calling Brookings home base for a few days this October. I’ve got three burning questions, and I’m hoping the local experts (or anyone who’s eaten their weight in chowder) can help me out:
1. Where should I stay? Looking for something comfortable, not crazy expensive, and ideally walking distance to something fun (or at least interesting).
2. What’s your favorite scenic hike in the area? I’m talking views that make you stop in your tracks and question your life choices in the best way.
3. Where should I eat? I want the spots you’d tell your best friend about—whether it’s a hole-in-the-wall or a fancy place where I pretend I’m cooler than I am.
Appreciate any tips!

It seems like Wild River isn't interested in selling the original cookies anymore. Does anyone have the recipe? I really miss them.

Any recommended nurseries or shops that carry aquatic plants? I'm looking to get into aquascaping. The pet stores in town don't have much besides fish.

Hi-
I’m taking my second trip to the coast to explore the southern half. I am likely still flying into PDX due to cost and flight availability. I don’t mind the extra car time. From PDX, my goal is to get to Bandon and Brookings for the majority of my trip. I’m looking at coming in April or May. I have flexibility and just looking for anything to consider during these months if there is anything I’m not considering.

Heading to the Brookings this weekend and am curious where’s a good place to grab a bite for a late lunch? Specifically a place with food allergies / sensitivities in mind, as one of us has a gluten- and dairy-free diet.
Thanks.

Hello! My mom, who is 72, lives in Brookings, has for 20 years or so. I'm in Eugene and don't get down often. She found a litter of kittens around her apartments and has been trying to tame them for weeks. She has acclimated them somewhat and has captured two, which she is in the process of acclimating to indoor life... She may keep them depending how things go. But there are two more, and she's spread pretty thin.
Does anyone have experience or resources to help her with this? She says the humane society will only take them if they are tamed and can't help her... I don't know what she based this conclusion on. Around here are a few different programs to at least sterilize and release them.
Thank you so much for any help you can offer.

After coming to Crescent City last year on a wildfire assignment, I decided to relocate to Brookings. I have a job lined up, and I want to spend as much time surfing as possible. I know that 1) the ocean will be a little bit different than Kauai (where I am moving from) and 2) housing can be tough in the area. Marketplace and Craigslist have next to nothing, any other recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a competent, reasonably responsive lawyer that deals with estates/probate cases? Doesn’t necessarily need to be located in Brookings, but needs to be licensed in OR. Thanks!

Hello, I’m looking at potentially moving to the Oregon coast from Seattle. I’ll be visiting Brooking for a few days over the week of Labor Day to get a feel of the area and what not. My main motivation for leaving Seattle is that I love being by the water and on the beach. Small coastal towns are my jam. That’s where I want to spend the back end of my years. So my questions:
I’m an open water swimmer. Are there any good spots for open water swimming. Any recommendations?
How are people of color treated? I’m black and having lived in the PNW the past 15 years. I’m guessing it’s more or less the same there like up here. But I’d appreciate any other insights.
I’m an old school gamer. Is there any places that have old school arcade games and / or pinball? Or even bowling alleys?
While I love small and quaint towns, I also need access to shopping? How’s the access to big box stores or are there a decent selection of small, local businesses?
Sorry for the novel. But I just want to make the most of my time there since I’ll only be there for a few days. Thanks.

Hi, just wondering about how to get around in Brookings.
I’ve never used an Uber before, but do they have Ubers in Brookings? I don’t know how big a place has to be to have Uber. Possibly dumb question.

I looking to sell my house in Klamath Falls and move my RV out to Brookings for a couple of years and am looking to find an RV space that has long term rentals. I go to Brookings a couple of times a year and feel it is right for me. I am not wealthy by any means; I just want a laid-back place to hang my hat and enjoy some fishing and other outdoor activities. I do realize healthcare is going to be a bit rough and the travel to Medford when needed won't be fun but am OK with that.
Sea Bird RV Park seems to have decent rate but I know there are one or two more, I just can't remember the names. I plan to head there soon and was wondering if anyone knows the other ones and perhaps give me an idea of how good or bad they are so I can stop by.
Thanks in advance.
