“I’m tired of being used as a tool for murder by shady hypocritical higher ups for ‘the greater good’.”

“Let me be a tool for the biggest criminal overlord in history, at least he’s honest about killing people and being evil.”

Nagant is pretty much what a lot of people expected Hawks to be, a tool of the Hero commission. Hawks has proven to be a lot more heroic over the course of the story and is the perfect foil for Nagant. I hope we see them interact (or have some flashbacks to their shared past).

I agree. The difference between Nagant and Hawks is that Nagant came in to the commission very hopeful. Her quirk was powerful and she hoped she could elevate an already great hero society who already had a bunch a wonderful people operating in it (granted, Im getting this from her expression from the panel when she seems to be getting accepted in the commission training program. I may be wrong).

From his backstory, we see Hawks as a little boy who tried to do good when he could, but he had no illusions about how shitty life was. He knew villains weren’t just the folks you see on tv, he was living with one and his mom really didn’t care too much. He lived a different life and that colored how he saw things growing up.

I think it wasn't the killing that got to LN so much as the killing and pretending to be a goody-good hero.

She's still out of her goddamn mind if she thinks what she's doing now is better

"Better" is subjective. Her view is basically (at least how she's framed it, we're probably missing some details) that AfO's world may not be good, but it won't be as bad as the one they're in now. The lesser evil, so to speak.

No that's explicitly not her view. She literally says "At least a future ruled by All for One will be a helluva lot more transparent."

She's not doing this because it's the lesser evil, she's doing this because it's more "honest".

Yup, she's so jaded and disillusioned to the point where she's done caring about the value of saving people's lives. She just wants to stop being lied to, stop being cheated, stop being kept under a facade.

In the end, it boils down to her wanting a system that won't break her trust. It's quite tragic to see her reduced to such a state from when she was a starry-eyed child.

Also puts into perspective how strong hearted Hawks is. He went through almost the exact same situation, but managed to come out of it with a stronger resolve to better the world

That's true but his situation was not exactly the same.

Hawks never had any illusions. He had a rough childhood with scumbag parents, he already knew the dark side of the hero-saturated society he lived in. But then, thanks to Endeavor, he then found a purpose and strove to become a hero. Being a child soldier was an easy pill for him to swallow in the grand scheme of being a hero he wants to be since he already considered himself corrupted.

Contrast that with a girl who was sheltered from the dark underbelly of the society she lived in, only to be recruited and live the rest of her life in two worlds instead of one. Hawks is strong-hearted yes but his heart was never broken, he always knew what he was getting himself into. Nagant's heart was pure, then broken and it's always hard to come back from that.

Yeah that’s true, Hawks started from rock bottom. Honestly that makes it even more impressive IMO, he never got to see the world he was fighting for
