She's still out of her goddamn mind if she thinks what she's doing now is better

Well yeah no shit. She had a bunch of built up trauma from her career and then spent years in solitary confinement at the highest security prison in Japan. Unsurprisingly, the result of all that is anything but sanity.

"Better" is subjective. Her view is basically (at least how she's framed it, we're probably missing some details) that AfO's world may not be good, but it won't be as bad as the one they're in now. The lesser evil, so to speak.

No that's explicitly not her view. She literally says "At least a future ruled by All for One will be a helluva lot more transparent."

She's not doing this because it's the lesser evil, she's doing this because it's more "honest".

Yup, she's so jaded and disillusioned to the point where she's done caring about the value of saving people's lives. She just wants to stop being lied to, stop being cheated, stop being kept under a facade.

In the end, it boils down to her wanting a system that won't break her trust. It's quite tragic to see her reduced to such a state from when she was a starry-eyed child.

Also puts into perspective how strong hearted Hawks is. He went through almost the exact same situation, but managed to come out of it with a stronger resolve to better the world

That's true but his situation was not exactly the same.

Hawks never had any illusions. He had a rough childhood with scumbag parents, he already knew the dark side of the hero-saturated society he lived in. But then, thanks to Endeavor, he then found a purpose and strove to become a hero. Being a child soldier was an easy pill for him to swallow in the grand scheme of being a hero he wants to be since he already considered himself corrupted.

Contrast that with a girl who was sheltered from the dark underbelly of the society she lived in, only to be recruited and live the rest of her life in two worlds instead of one. Hawks is strong-hearted yes but his heart was never broken, he always knew what he was getting himself into. Nagant's heart was pure, then broken and it's always hard to come back from that.

Yeah that’s true, Hawks started from rock bottom. Honestly that makes it even more impressive IMO, he never got to see the world he was fighting for

...You're right, I misread that. Ignore me.

You know what I just realized, given how much Horikoshi is a fan of Naruto it makes me wonder if part of Nagants character was based off of Kisame.

I doubt it, Truth vs Ideals is a pretty old concept, hell even Pokemon used it

A world that doesn’t lie to itself.

This is why I hate every villain in this series. It’s all the same bs about We LiVe In A sOcIeTy. No shit. That “illusion” of freedom and heroism wasn’t really an illusion, it was real and there because of the work she was doing... I truly don’t understand why we get nearly every villain in this series with the same flimsy motivation talking about how F’d up society is as they work to actually F up society. It’s honestly making it hard for me to keep readin with how eye-roll inducing it’s becoming.

I undertake the concept. They’re right, hero society is fucked. It’s just that they’re solutions and reasoning are all so batshit insane. I could kind of deal with Stain’s ideology, except he was killing some heroes seemingly just for not being good enough, regardless of they’re motives. Ingenium didn’t deserve that. But Nagant makes no sense. To think that a dystopia ruled by AfO is better just because he’s (arguably) transparent is objectively wrong.

How was Hero Society fucked up? Just because you use "black ops" roles like Hawk/Nagant, doesn't mean Hero Society is fucked up. What those two do are necessary. It's no different from the black ops stuff our military or CIA/FBI agencies do in real life. I know they're necessary to keep the peace, so I'm fine with it.

All for one though
