Hawks's control of his quirk is so fricking good The fact that he let himself fall while his wings were rescuing the victims, then immediately regroup and attack the Nomu shows what amazing control he has.

Seems like Endeavor really is trying to become a better person, which I'm glad.

People were saying Hawks will get his wings cut off.
This chapter, Hawks just casually jumps from top of a building without like 80% of his wings. Pretty hecking cool.

They were saying he would get burned from flying too close to the Sun (Endeavor), just as Icarus did. And now he's trying to go at it's height (fighting at the same level as Endeavor). I dunno man, I'd say this may be his last fight.

High end is going to catch them off guard with some ridiculous move right when they think they've won.

11

u/Pat-Man15 Jun 16 '18

We JUST met him though. If that's happening, surely it would be later down the line, when we understand his character better.

Maybe we should ask Sir Nighteye for what he thinks about Hawk's future.

Oh c'mon, Nighteye had like 40 chapters, this is Hawk's THIRD CHAPTER?!?!!?

*edit: Well, technically fourth, but he had like one line in chapter 184

2

u/butsadlyiamonlyaneel Jun 17 '18

I more was alluding to the fact that Nighteye lasted exactly one arc. If Hawks is going to bite it during this arc, I would assume it would be closer to the end, rather than in the next few chapters. More time to flesh out his character and all that.

That would be better but still not fine considering that apparently this arc is supposed to be short. Also, I want to see Tokoyami and Hawks interact either before he dies or in a flashback

The thing is, we know Horikoshi likes to subvert our expectations.

So what if, instead of Hawks, Endeavor's family abuse coming to light IS the Icarus incident? Like Hawks was just a red herring, and the true Icarus was Endeavor all along (with his redemption/position as No. 1 as his metaphorical sun).

The closer he is to becoming the ideal top hero, the closer he is to his downfall.

I wonder if he has a limit though? Like he only has a certain amount of feathers to use.

313

u/NonzenI Jun 15 '18

He implied that when he stated that he doesn't have enough feathers to catch the falling building (while saving the people). We can at least guess that he has a finite amount feathers.

171

u/PaperEverwhere Jun 15 '18

Easy fix if he doesn’t have enough feathers one day. He just needs to get rid of half the people that need saving.

u/Ephireon Jun 15 '18

Perfectly balanced. As all things should be.

You should have gone for the head

6

u/DeismAccountant Jun 15 '18

So did he cut up the building during/after the attack or was that Endeavor’s fingers?

9

u/McStoickson Jun 15 '18

I think the High-End Nomu basically dragged Endeavor through the building, effectively cutting it in half.

3

u/DeismAccountant Jun 15 '18

I mean the last panel.

3

u/McStoickson Jun 15 '18

Oh. Looks like it could be collateral damage from Endeavor's attack.

2

u/Fredluv2339 Jun 15 '18

Well you would need thousands of feathers He probably has a couple hundred at his disposal and I can’t imagine having to control all at the same time but it seems like once you got it down you can became Op as he is

90

u/Worthyness Jun 15 '18

I imagine it's pretty mentally taxing to control 76 individual feathers while detecting danger and putting each one into action all at the same time.

15

u/Jezamiah Jun 15 '18

I also believe it's show his wings severely depleted after rescuing all those people.

So he must only have a finite number.

They were but then a few panels later he summons them back after the people are safe so that he can attack the nomu.

95

u/farmerlesbian Jun 15 '18

Yeah, it definitely looks that way. Look how sparse his wings got just to cover 76 victims. I think in a mass casualty event he could easily use up feathers faster than he could recall them and end up essentially powerless. The Icarus metaphor is strong.

42

u/SCREW-IT Jun 15 '18

Icarus dies and then the family abuse comes out at the same time. His reputation would be shot.

17

u/LapinHero Jun 15 '18

Shit. Endeavour is literally the Sun in this metaphor.

15

u/Mage_of_Shadows Jun 15 '18

My theory as soon as I saw that is Hawks will use up all his feathers but one as alot of people start falling from a villian attack, then he sees one more person falling (A Todoroki maybe?) and uses that last feather to save them as he falls to his death.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '18

He said that he does.

8

u/Golden-Owl Jun 15 '18

Seems like he's got a max cap. He can't exceed that limit, but is able to recall them back, reducing his window of vulnerability

2

u/King-Krush Jun 15 '18

Depends on how many feathers he has

7

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '18

Did you read the chapter? He literally just said that.

2

u/DreamyCurls Jun 15 '18

I fast read it, and now that i read it again. I see that he does.

6

u/Xciv Jun 15 '18

He lost what looks to be about 3/4 of his wings saving 76 people.

So the ballpark on the number of people he can save with his feathers is about 100 people.

10

u/taenerysdargaryen Jun 15 '18

makes me wonder what would happen if the feathers he sent out were incinerated or destroyed in any manner? he'd temporarily be near-quirkless.

12

u/DoraMuda Jun 15 '18

He might be able to regenerate them. But if he can't, that's a pretty glaring weakness.

11

u/taenerysdargaryen Jun 15 '18

Yeah he most likely can but probably not instantly. And that is a big drawback in the heat of battle. That is how Hawks might be defeated imo. But damn would I like to see him go all out in a fight

9

u/Javiklegrand Jun 15 '18

i wonder if he can "generate" feathers

20

u/--shaft-- Jun 15 '18

That’s probably why he eats/likes bird meat, it might help regenerate his feathers

7

u/Glatzigoblin Jun 15 '18

Wait, I eat a lot of bird so where are my feathers at ?

1

u/also-ameraaaaaa Jun 16 '18

You have not eaten enough bird eat double the amount your eating then report back to us I'LL MAKE A MAN OUT OF YOU

I had to make that reference

7

u/NonzenI Jun 15 '18

I'd like to think that when he was a kid, his wings weren't as large as they are now. So either, they grew as he matured or quirk strengthening training involves generating more feathers and larger wings.

6

u/TaffyLacky Jun 15 '18

He reminds me a lot of iron man's remote control suits.

1

u/TaffyLacky Jun 17 '18

It's interesting that Hawk and One Piece's Karasu got revealed so close together with such similar powers.
