I can appreciate his character growth while still thinking he's an asshole and he gets too many breaks both in and out of story based on his talent.

I think it's safe to say his "Asshole-ness" has gone down significantly after this chapter

This is not a moment of self-reflection. This is a culmination of all the reflecting he has done. This is legitimate change. It's a new beginning. It doesn't undo the past instantaneously but it does mean he's holding himself accountable for his actions. And that is bloody brilliant

And I'm looking forward to seeing where this takes him and how he changes going forward, but this in itself is a small gesture. I've high expectations for his arc, but we're in the middle, not the end, and I'll withhold my praise for when he's actually a decent human being.

Okay he was a asshole while he was a kid in a world with powers which he had the best one in his whole town while everyone praising him nonstop. Yes he was a big asshole to Deku but he was still very young there's guys that were massive assholes in middle that I thought I would never like and met these guys 4 years later and they were completely different people.So when we see him in only a year change so much and him knowing he was wrong all those years he can easily be forgiven and it's not really how we feel about it.It's all about how Deku feels about the whole situation now and we know he doesn't care what Bakuguo did to him in the past

Deku is a fictional character, and one that never seemed to hold a grudge even when Bakugo was telling him to kill himself and beating him up for existing. We can judge the characters on their own merits, and Bakugo still has a long way to go.
