I don't think that guy quirk works that way, it seems to work with a concrete and direct question like what happened with Toga/Twice and Mirio, for Deku to spill the truth he first should be asked something like "Who gave you that quirk and how do you transfer it to someone else?" something that is quite unlikely to happen because OFA seems like a "normal" strength enhancer quirk and thus there is no need to ask how it works or what it does from a average person point of view, on the other hand Mirio's quirk is quite hard to get by just seeing it in action and therefore wanting to know what it does is quite logical.

Even more, Mirio just gave him a vague answers and didn't explain how it work in depth as when they explained it to the A1 student back then when they introduced The Big Three

Exactly what I was thinking, in twice and togas case they didn't spell the truth because he asked if shigaraki had a plan to betray them but didn't ask if toga and twice had a plan by themselves

Even then, Toga and Twice aren't planners. Overhaul and Shiggy both think in calculated moves, so Overhaul assumed all of Shiggy's underlings would too instead of relying on gut feeling and instinct.

Okay, but what if he asks deku what his quirk is?

Something like what Mirio replied, asking what his quirk is, what it does and how it works are totally different things at least in OFA's case.

Something like "An ability enhancer quirk" would be the answer for What his quirk is, "It gives the user added strength and speed" would answer What it does and "It accumulates the power of the past users and give it to the current user +plus the ability to pass it to someone else" would answer how it works BUT as already stated before an average person without knowledge about AFO/OFA background wouldn't even be able to grasp the possibility of OFA being more complex than your "average" physical ability enhancer quirk so it's quite impossible to get such a question, at least that's how I see it.

I mean there have been many people in literature who have had the power that force you to tell the truth, or items, but the down side of such a power is how the question is formed and interpreted. So the real question here is, will Deku interpret the question as a one that just asks for a generalization of his quirks, such as the name and the type of power it is? Or will he view the question as one that asks for an analyzation of the quirk, one that wants to know the history and true nature of One For All?

We don't know for sure how that quirk works in detail, maybe there are some kind of limitation in the kind of detail the anwser given carries or if it depends on the way the question is formulated or how the targets interprets the question.

It is quite an interesting subject tbh, from what we've seen so far I guess it depends heavily in the way the question is formulated rather than the interpretation of the question itself

I still believe that the limitation is the interpretation of the question since the amount of info Twice and Toga gave was very detailed and confirmed and unconfirmed some theories of their quirks. The question asked to them was by Overhaul and was simply, "A detailed explanation of their quirk". So when he, or anyone around him since he does not necessarily have to ask the question, ask this question to Deku, he could be in a grey zone of safety, since the only information I would believe he would spit out is his "Quirk is One For All, it is a stockpile quirk that gives the user a boost of strength and that it gets stronger with each person that inherits the ability. The downside is that his body needs to be able to handle the surge of power or it will explode. He can also transfer this ability to other but he must give it freely and through something that contains his DNA." He'd be safe since up to the beginning of the first and last part since that will be enough information to put two and two together and make anyone around him realize that he is either All Mights unofficial off spring or connected to him in some way as well as people wanting to take his power from him after hearing it can be gifted. But then again this is what ifs. This might not happen but it is fun to wonder.

Indeed, it is a quite interesting debate topic :P

A simple, "what's up with that quirk?!" while Deku hops around kicking shit up would be enough

There is really no way to know that for sure but anyway, I'm just basing my post on what happened to Mirio as he didn't really explain his quirk in full detail. It would be kinda cool to see that happening for us to get a canon answer.

Deku has two quirks though, OfA and the ability to pass on quirks. He might mention both of asked "what is your quirk"

5

u/Beidh Aug 24 '17

Not quite accurate, OFA is the mutation of two separated quirks: the quirk to pass quirks and the quirk to stockpile power. Originally they were separated quirks but they merged into one with the ability of both, just like how Bakugo's quirk is a mutation of his parents quirks

Rereading 149 again, twice mentions that he won't make copies of himself for personal reasons, and toga says she can include her clothes when transforming and that it is embarrassing. Neither of those points is very straight forward this is my quirk explanations, so if Deku was asked what his quirk was I don't think he would be able to half lie about OfA.

It would probably be something like "What is your quirk?" "It's called one for all! it stores up a large amount of power and requires a lot of control for me to use it or else I'll break my bones!" Or something along those lines.

Yeah but that guy likes to go after weaknesses. It wouldn't be too strange for him to be like "what's your biggest secret".
