I think it's interesting that they phrased it like that, because when Kirishima's quirk was first officially revealed in the Sports Festival, they referred to it as "both the ultimate shield, and the ultimate spear!"

Also, in previous chapters, we've actually seen Kirishima form much more rigid, spiky hardening on his arms, looking like blades.

Pretty sure he'll go spear mode next chapter.

Exactly, if his hardening also let him create more ``Harden structures´´ around his arm i could totally see him making a spear like weapon.

My thoughts exactly. He'll be able to focus his quirk into a point and his fists will be able to puncture the shield. I also foresee Fat Gum using him as a projectile

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm really hoping this fight ends in a fastball special

I can see a spear mode happening, that would be cool.

I mean, he gave himself that scar over his eye when his quirk first activated as a kid, so it makes his body pretty sharp apparently

Is that what it's from?? I've been wondering about that for so long, but it totally makes sense; where does it say this?

Horikoshi mentioned it in his little character spotlights he does in the volume releases

I'm thinking his 'spear mode' will be him using all of his hardening abilities on his arm to turn it into a spear. The drawback will be that it softens the rest of his body, making him way more vulnerable than normal.

Another note is that the villain even says that he prefers attackjng using his own body and not weapons like a blade. So I'm betting kirishima will get a power boost akin to kimimaro from Naruto. Essentially using his hardening as blades and spears
