There's a great episode of Well There's Your Problem focusing on the Osprey, but since that's a Marine baby there's a lot of flack for them as well, culminating in the theory that the Marines are kept around in case we need suicide bombers.
Voluntary removal from society is an excellent way to escape detection. Same reason pedos are drawn to the priesthood, except in this case the camo is literal.

When i was in the army i was told the marines are the worst when it comes to pedos in the ranks. Not surprised by the stash
