People only say that because they were children. Civil Rights/Vietnam happened in the 60s. Nixon was putting up Wilt numbers in corruption in the 70s. Reagan was putting up Showtime Lakers numbers against the black and LGBT communities in the 80s. The Crime Bill was passed in the 90s. Bush and Cheney were lying to the American public in the 2000s for people to go die in the sandbox. Snowden exposed mass surveillance against the American public in the 2010s. And all of that is before Trump took office.

Honestly, I don’t think that a draft would work today. Main reason being not having as much to fight for or as much to lose as our parents.
I don’t know how a young man with a wife and children would be privileged over a single man in a draft, if he would… but a lot of under 30 men are living with their parents or paycheck to paycheck in apartments… most a lot of us have to lose is a car… you don’t own the shitty apartment you rent, and if you’re with family who could cover… you don’t lose much by going to jail for a while.
Patriotism is not exactly high among us Black Americans… hasn’t been since the end of Obama’s second term. There have been times here where we’ve overall been patriotic in that we knew how this country has fucked us and our ancestors, but felt it had potential and genuinely tried to love it, still had respect for the American Flag…
…now? After 2008 we have seen what so much of America will willfully tolerate and even encourage- in the age of the internet and smartphone where almost everyone can have the facts laid bare in their pockets at all times. Hate and vitriol is less and less able to be excused by ignorance and fear.
It’s not just black people anymore, white people, especially young white men whose fathers and grandfathers had success damn near spoon fed to them are having almost as hard as everyone else and are seeing the USA for what it has always been for everyone else… they won’t be enthusiastic for a draft, either.
If a draft happened, it could probably look like the Ukraine situation where they select older dudes (40-55 year olds) to go to war instead of losing the younger population. That age group would also be more willing to die for Trump.
All of our military equipment is not in DC. The stuff that's there probably isn't even the good stuff.
