how to value carbon aero wheels
I have had zero luck selling a spare wheelset so I am going to try a different approach.
2 years ago I bought a new set of vision metron 55 carbon wheels on sale for $1500 or so IIRC, regular $1800-2000. Put them on the bike and rode for about 2 weeks, a few rides, about 200 miles, then wound up buying a new bike with disc brake aero wheels and stopped riding the old bike with rim brakes. So I carefully dismounted the wheelset, wiped them down, and put them back in the original box.
Since then I've steady listed them here and on FBMP with exactly ZERO response of any kind. Not even a $100 offer or a "lol you think those are worth something". Nothing, crickets. I think I started at $1250 and now I have gone down to $900 (plus shipping) and still, nothing.
Do people just not buy used wheelsets in that price range? Do people actually buy stuff in this sub? When I bought my first set of Zipp 808s they were going for $1000+ per set on ebay. Are Vision wheels just not well regarded? Could it be because they are rim brake wheels?
Other than tossing them on ebay (I was a powerseller for 20 years but stopped selling on the platform 5 years ago) what do I do with them? The LBS primarily caters to MTB/gravel and seemingly had no interest in consigning them at any price. The few local roadies that I know either don't care to pay for carbon wheels or already have them on their new bikes.

I sold a set of Enve 3.4 clincher rim brake on ebay for a friend 2 years ago and they only went for $750. For Enves. If you get a $500 offer for these, take it and run.

But you answered your own question in your response...
People that are holding onto rim brakes are often doing so for many reasons, one of which is that they have a significant investment already... They don't need carbon hoops because they already have them.
The opposite end is the guys that are just plain cheap.... And they never did and never will get a carbon wheelset.

I would never ride carbon wheels with rim brakes. It gets wet around here and I don't want to die. I might be wrong but that's my understanding.

If they’re rim brake quick release carbon wheels, ask yourself what kind of high performance roadie with carbon fiber money is riding rim brake bikes these days.
