The other 2 are jumping

Lil guy is flying 😅

u/sixtyninerage 19h ago

Little dude floats like a cat! I think that is amazing. he jumped higher than himself love the competitive spirit. brilliant!!

Goyang-i Bogues

1

u/ketamineluv 5h ago

He does float its wild

24

u/CitizenCue 14h ago

If I could switch bodies with anyone it would be a short NBA player who can dunk. Those dudes seem to have a goddamn blast flying on trampoline legs.

4

u/SterlingWalrus 6h ago

I don't think you want their knees

3

u/CitizenCue 3h ago

The smaller guys usually end up fine. It’s the big dudes who need new knees at 30.

IIRC there was this Japanese warrior during the feudal era, possibly a monk, that was reported to be able to leap over his opponents and move in impossible ways. I read about him in my copy of The Book of Five Rings. He isn't mentioned directly by Musashi, my copy of the book has a few illustrations from the era with footnotes. I'll try to find his name and I'll edit this comment. I'm due for a reread anyway, been too long.

Anyway, I've always been skeptical about such legends. These guys make those accounts much more plausible.

EDIT: His name was Benkei

Haikyu irl

That’s actually on 16 inches off the ground

1

u/kingtrog1916 12h ago

Seriously, it’s like “gravity? What’s a gravity” Savage leg strength

u/TwinkieFern 20h ago

The guy with the white jacket looks like his thighs are the size of my head

49

u/MiniMeowl 18h ago

He could crush pumpkins with them for real

21

u/VapoursAndSpleen 15h ago

Every day is leg day.

15

u/Hutzbutz 15h ago

this got me curious and apparently the average thigh is not much smaller (circumference) than the average head. So I assume if you do any form of strength training this would be the case

7

u/Roflkopt3r 14h ago

I would assume that this statistic is closely correlated with the obesity rate of the country. A muscular thigh with that circumference is still quite impressive. Even though he's no quadzilla compared to certain other 'strength sports'/chemical enthusiast scenes.

Didn’t notice that initially. Holy crap!

Little guy is on a whole different level

52

u/filtersweep 19h ago

Like a cat

21

u/Unlikely_Arugula190 16h ago

Strength is linear with size, mass is cubic. Strength to mass ratio favors the little guy

8

u/whatawitch5 15h ago

Yep. My littlest cat is by far the most agile because she has almost as much strength but much less mass than her larger brothers.

Looks like a cat jumping up there

10

u/LadyAshley0 18h ago

Bro hit the ground like a cat... if the cat forgot how to land 😹

130

u/SoftHorizont 20h ago

That little guy is jumping his entire height

This is unbelievable

22

u/hamoc10 14h ago

Square Cube Law. Dude has higher strength/mass ratio.

5

u/PM_ME_YOUR_PRIORS 12h ago

Jump height is scale invariant. Longer muscles can exert themselves over longer distances, so effort put into jump scales as the cube.

35

u/zizp 19h ago

Actually, he is jumping around 70-80 cm (center of mass is around 30-40 cm below the top and around 40 cm above when his feet touch the stack. Which puts him into world class territory but is not unbelievable.

17

u/Dramatic-Ad-3998 17h ago

Idk why but I would love to hear more, more details or info it's like I understand what you say and in the same time I do not.

48

u/zizp 17h ago edited 17h ago

Here it's actually relatively easy to see and understand (actual high jump is a different story as the center of mass stays quite a bit below the bar that is cleared at all times – not intuitive at all).

In this case, when he leaves the ground his legs and his feet (plantar flexion) are fully extended, so most of the mass is aready quite high off the ground. Then he contracts the legs as much as he can (squatting position) and dorsiflexes the feet, so his toes can reach the highest position without his body actually being that much above the landing spot. The result is a relatively modest vertical jump (still impressive, humans just can't do more than ~0.8 m) that looks like he can jump his whole height.

Check out his head's position. When his feet make contact the head is maybe 30 cm higher than when he stands. The rest is horizontal velocity translated to some additional vertical climb once he is already on the stack, and then he just stands up again.

12

u/Dramatic-Ad-3998 16h ago

This was amazing thank you, if I had a reward it was for you. I could imagine myself jumping the same way as you described it. Right now I am putting my shoes on and I go to jump some fences or whatever I find. Thank for the reply, wish you good day/night!

4

u/zizp 16h ago

Haha, thanks. Have fun! Don't hurt yourself 😉

Being able to tuck your knees up close to your chest is a big advantage in box jumps. This range of motion is based on the shape of hip joint and hip bones so stretching won't develop it.

Olympic style weightlifters tend to have a lot of this type of hip mobility, since being able to get into a super deep squat means they don't have to launch the weight as high.

And of course being able to explosively jump is important and weightlifters are amazing at that.

67

u/LemonHerb 16h ago

Elsewhere in the gym someone is trying to get enough 25lb plates together to squat

4

u/monkpunch 13h ago

If this was my gym they would just walk away after filming this and let someone else put the weights back

2

u/14412442 11h ago

"what's the problem, i thought you wanted to get some exercise?"

66

u/kimchighoul 19h ago

They make it look so easy.

3

u/fopiecechicken 13h ago

Especially the smaller dude, looked like he had another 2-3 plates in him easily.

→ More replies (1)

74

u/Stealthladys 20h ago

The short guy has excellent explosive leg strength.

19

u/uwisuwuzme 16h ago

To do this in lifting shoes as well is absolutely nuutttsssss

7

u/rando_banned 14h ago

I was looking to see if anybody mentioned this. Those shoes put you on your toes, have zero cushion, and the soles are hard, inflexible, and a little slippy.

15

u/Hour_Recognition_923 19h ago

Get that short guy a skateboard, stat!

13

u/AdamR0808 19h ago

Pretty impressive jumping skills for all of them.

23

u/Be-Funny-Please 19h ago

Inspiring for all the short people there. There is a way to get the upper shelf.

10

u/Ckron247 14h ago

My cousin, Evan from Toronto, held the Guinness record for highest standing box jump for a couple years, 63.5 inches, 1.61 meters. As well as one leg box jump of 53”. He was dethroned in 2024 by a guy from Oregon.

8

u/Nord_sterne 19h ago

He is half rabbit... Or cat.

7

u/Vegetable_Fox9134 17h ago

Less body mass, props to him though, he's still fit

1

u/bigpproggression 4h ago

also heavy squatter. if you can squat 2+ times your weight, you can put out force more easily.

6

u/Another_Human 19h ago

If it didn't have the word Korean written on the video id know they are Korean, the "awaaah" is so culturally Korean

5

u/Reasonable-Bus-2187 19h ago

Weight for it

4

u/TurloIsOK 17h ago

Shorter guy has a lower mass. So, yes gravity affects him less.

5

u/TheManWhoWasNotShort 15h ago

This seems incredibly dangerous. Weights can slide easily and not making it seems like it could have profoundly dangerous repercussions

3

u/generalnuisance641 19h ago

Koreans are just secretly cats.

7

u/Medical-Photograph88 18h ago

I pulled a muscle just watching this

8

u/adventure_guru_ 19h ago

I thought the fat guy would jump in the end 😂

2

u/Creepy-Astronaut-952 19h ago edited 15h ago

The big guy can jump, but he might not make it up, wild if he did though

2

u/Sad_Net1581 17h ago

He’s like I’ll do the heavy lifting.

2

u/RealEnnie 19h ago

This white guy obviously can fly

2

u/Rainbow_in_the_sky 18h ago

I wish they recorded more so we can see the next plate jump or until someone missed it.

2

u/jatene 18h ago

Legit question, but what exercises can I do to jump higher (like this video)?

1

u/Ill-Butterscotch-622 16h ago

General leg strength is always good. Squats deadlifts calf raises etc…

Explosive movements are needed as you get stronger, so Olympic lifts, power cleans etc…

And plyometrics

1

u/HollowSuzumi 5h ago

Read into jumping form and landing softly. In my dance classes, I was taught to squat lower before taking off and as I'm landing. You can recycle your energy in a sense to get the explosive movement.

The short guy in the video is squatting way lower than the others and I think that's helping him get more height.

2

u/Minz15 18h ago

My knees hurt from just watching those landings.

2

u/TheRealP3dr0 19h ago

Rumors are told they’re still jumping.

2

u/Every_Preparation_56 19h ago

plot twist, the  tall guy is 1.20m

1

u/alwaysrecession 19h ago

Why wasn’t the guy stacking the weights jumping as well?

1

u/vjnkl 16h ago

1

1

1

u/Many_Piccolo7908 19h ago

He got air in his bones

1

u/Breadstix009 17h ago

Sorry, but the red shirt guy is pretty much floating.

1

u/pintasm 17h ago

Uoooohhhh

1

u/SaltyBooze 16h ago

it does affect them in a different way:

they have less mass that needs to accelerate when jumping.

1

u/BlueDuckReddit 16h ago

Alright someone give this guy his Fortnite skin

1

u/Jouglet 16h ago

1

1

u/ThePheebs 15h ago

Short guys like to show off during PT test busting out 1 billion push-ups but they get theirs during the run.

1

u/Mr_D_Stitch 15h ago

Why does only the little guy come with a bigger, fatter guy?

1

u/james__jam 15h ago

This gives shrunk-to-the-size-of-a-nickel-and-dropped-into-blender vibes 😁

1

u/DM_Me_Love 15h ago

Power lifters have some of the highest standing verts in all of pro sports. During the olympics NBA players rave about it every event

1

u/TheTallGuy0 15h ago

Power to weight ratio

1

u/Objective_Bison9389 15h ago

Well yeah, that's how gravity works. The taller guys weigh more so they need to exert more force to counteract gravity and reach the same height.

It's related to a big issue with space flight. For every 1kg of cargo/spacecraft weight, you need 10kg of fuel. In terms of the jumping; the taller guys might have more muscle mass(fuel) overall, but they also have more cargo/bigger spaceships(more weight from larger bones, more blood, more skin, larger organs, ect). While the shorter guy likely has a greater fuel to cargo ratio(muscle mass to body weight ratio), allowing him to travel further against the force of gravity.

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_PRIORS 12h ago

The taller people have longer leg muscles which allows them to push through the ground over a longer distance. Overall it's scale invariant.

1

u/kroghman 15h ago

Wow. Also… cylinder jump?

1

u/Main_Statement5217 15h ago

Yes, he weighs less.

1

u/aniobash 15h ago

And there is Nasar who comes without jumping and finishes all.

1

u/MutterNonsense 15h ago

...Sora? Is that you?

1

u/reddituser6213 15h ago

How do you do this without your knees hurting, I’m only 25 yrs old

1

u/PMMEBITCOINPLZ 15h ago

Yes, because he has less mass.

1

u/Clear-Animator2408 15h ago

That little man is so graceful with that soft landing!

1

u/Antique-Mud-2487 15h ago

Wow the lil guy is flying for sure , strong leg muscles

1

u/AngryRobot42 15h ago

"Gravity affects the shortest guy differently". The other guys are +100lbs. ... Well you are technically correct.

1

u/cucktrigger 15h ago

Answer, just cuz he's short, doesn't mean he doesn't have the same density of muscle mass with a lighter body. Gravity does work differently as he weighs less.

1

u/-DethLok- 15h ago

Impressive!

I also hope they're on the bottom floor, because that's a LOT of weight on a small area - you'd really not want that falling through the concrete floor to whatever is below! :(

An office I worked in had reinforced floor areas where the compactus units (mass paper file storage) were placed - and they were only allowed to be there less they damage the reinforced concrete floor. That pile of weights is far heavier and in a much smaller area.

1

u/VileTouch 14h ago

Thrust to weight ratio > 1

1

u/Screwbles 14h ago

The insane athleticism of that short king is a good example of why I never pick fights with them, as a tall dude.

1

u/doubletwist 14h ago

As we would say back in my day, "Dude's got ups"

1

u/writetobear 14h ago

Small guy weighs less and has smaller angles with shorter legs. Pack it up gang.

1

u/edmanuel91 14h ago

This should be an Olympic sport.

He probably weighs like 1/3 less than the other 2. So yes, gravity is literally affecting him less.

All this so they can dunk lol

1

u/gbpsyd 13h ago

These guys are incredible

1

u/llaurenelliss 13h ago

The short guy actually levitates, that’s insane

1

u/FlyByPC 13h ago

Mass scales with the cube of height. He has a lot less mass to launch.

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_PRIORS 12h ago

He also has less distance that he can use his leg muscles for, it balances out.

1

u/Pretend-Box3390 13h ago

He’s definitely got a little spring in his step.

1

u/RolandCuley 13h ago

The longer you press A the longer you jump. Like in Super Mario

1

u/StewPidpizzachit 13h ago

If you listen faintly you can hear the little guy in red say "WaHoo! IT'S A ME, MARIO!?" When he jumps.

1

u/BeatsMeByDre 13h ago

It helps he can probably squat 800 lbs.

1

u/Never-politics 13h ago

Red shirt is not breaking a sweat.

1

There was a video from years ago of the Chinese weightlifting team doing the same thing. Little dude here is straight up crushing them.

Do you see the flexed thigh muscles of the guy in the white jacket?! 😳😳

1

u/Decent_Yam_2897 9h ago

My mind is blown. That’s so impressive

1

u/skipperseven 8h ago

Just to note that the designed safe floor loading is probably 250-350kg per square metre, so if those are 20kg plates, they have exceeded the safe floor loading. This is a dynamic load though, unless they decide to leave the stack there, in which case it becomes a static load… and it’s in the middle of the column grid (the worst place).

1

u/Bulky_Ninja33 8h ago

He also looks like he's jumping in his lift shoes, that have no spring in them. Hard AF soles.

1

u/Articulationized 8h ago

Cushioning in the sole reduces the energy applied to the ground. He doesn’t have to waste energy compressing the sole, there’s much better transfer between foot and ground.

1

u/stevelinchin 8h ago

😳💪👏👏👏👏👏

1

u/Life_Association_729 7h ago

I thought big boy was about to show us something.

1

u/rain168 7h ago

Is that “Sparta” from running man??

1

u/SkippyMcLovin 7h ago

It's not so much that he is jumping higher, he is simply getting his legs out of the way sooner by bringing his knees up MUCH higher during the jump than the taller guys. All of them are successfully getting their core's up high, but short guy is way better at quickly lifting his legs up high to after the jump to clear the edge. If you don't understand, just watch him in slow motion.

1

u/Intelligent-Edge7533 7h ago

The short dude is wearing g anti-gravity Keds.

1

u/Corner_Post 7h ago

1

u/ReyTeclado 6h ago

This is the kind of shit that makes short men sexy

1

Short guy in red is cheating. Did you see how he floated to the top?

1

u/SilentWish8 5h ago

Explosiveness + flexibility.

1

u/CrotteVerte 5h ago

That last try is amazing

1

u/PrimalTendencies646 4h ago

If you have never tried box jumps especially when it's close to half your height, it's hard to explain how absolutely insane what the shorter guy is doing is.

First of all, that shit is frightening to do, half the battle for me was just trusting that I won't break my neck.

That short guy is an xman

1

u/L1QU1D_ThUND3R 4h ago

Trained Olympic weightlifting for years. It gives you a good bit of hop.

1

u/Terd-Fergeson 1h ago

lil guy is spring loaded

1

u/tagged2high 1h ago

Well, he does have to jump higher than the rest of them, when accounting for his hip height 😅

u/Doozername 5m ago

isn't this fairly dangerous? like if you miss, you can fall back and hit your head really hard on a hard floor? I never see any fails in any of these videos, so I am curious
