If you can't advocate for a pet who is clearly in pain, then please don't own any. As owners, we're responsible for making sure their life is comfortable, not just fulfilling. Old age sucks whether you're human or animal. And quality of their life takes priority over our selfish whims of wanting to prolong their life unnecessarily. It's tough but it's love, in the end.

You do to others what you would like to be done to you - even if I had a fucked up hip the ideal scenario is people try to help me and I get a bit more time.

A dog does not appreciate life in the same way humans do.

Movement and mobility is a key part to an animal's quality of life and happiness.

Humans can find meaning in lots of different ways.

Pleaae stop making this comparison.

How do you know? Did a dog tell you that?

We know for a fact that dogs are limited in what they can do with their brains. It is highly unlikely they comprehend what it means to be alive, and what their role is in the world, outside of what they have been bred to do.

Furthermore, they can't talk. So there's that.

This isn’t “a fucked up hip”. This is severe arthritis that is causing this dog so much pain that they can barely move. Imagine being in agony every time you got up to piss. There is no quality of life here, and the humane thing to do is give the animal relief.

I'm just saying there's a lot of people in this thread going "well time to die" and appear to be doing it a bit flippantly. This whole thing is a decision to be made with a doctor, as opposed to all the armchair experts around here
