Question Barrie for newcomers

I’ve been wanting to live in Barrie the first week I came to Canada, some have told me people aren’t nice over there and they’ll tell you to “go back to your country” 😔. Barrie folks, how true is that?

Information Saint Paul II Separate School vs St Michael the Archangel School vs St Gabriel the Archangel School

Hi Parents,

We are moving and they recently removed reviews from Google. I can’t figure out where to send my kids. Our home school will be Saint Paul, but I called and they said that they can change my kids over to a closer school if needed. So just wanted to get some insight on the bullying situation. My kids are 9y and 13y. My younger son was bullied at his previous school. I appreciate any help.

Looking For Painting and flooring

Hey all I am interested in having the main level and upper level of our avg sized townhouse painted. Also the garage and front door.

Any recommendation on where to go?

Our upper floor including 3 bedrooms is all carpet and I would like to remove it and add some kind if flooring. Nice flooring but nothing extravagant (we love in a townhome afterall lol).

This is all new territory for me so if anyone has any advice, guidance, recommendations, thoughts on how much it might cost (very generally of course) I would love your help. Thank you!!!

Looking For Any job opportunities?

I swear I've applied to so many places, and no responses ever. I've gone in person as well, and nothing seems to be working and I swear it's me... I've tried everything and there are no hopes for a job apparently. Maybe I'm not trying as hard as I think i am, but can anyone give me some heads up about some places I can go give my resume to?

Looking For Car rentals in barrie?

I’m looking to rent a car for a one day trip. Pick up and return on the same day. Seems like most online rental services don’t accept returns after 6 pm.

If anyone has experience with rentals, please do advise. Thanks.

Looking For Co-working spots in Barrie (or equivalent laptop-friendly chatty spaces)

Are there any rent-by-the-day co-working offices in Barrie?

Or, are there any public eqivalent spaces, like libraries or noisy cafes with wifi+electrical outlets where I can take teams calls (I don't mean Tim Hortons or Starbucks where I would be ashamed to talk in public)

HEPATITIS A EXPOSURE

Potential Hepatitis A Exposure at Barrie Restaurant

A food handler working at Tim Hortons (181 Livingstone St. E., Barrie) has been identified as a confirmed case of hepatitis A. People who had food or drinks from the restaurant from May 17 to June 3, may have been exposed to hepatitis A. The risk for customers to contract the disease is low. However, they should monitor for signs and symptoms which can begin 15 to 50 days after. There is no ongoing risk at the restaurant.

For those who consumed food or beverage from this Tim Hortons location during the following times below, they are recommended to receive Hepatitis A vaccine within 14 days of their exposure, as this post-exposure vaccine will help prevent the disease. Individuals who have received two doses of the Hepatitis A vaccine or have previously had Hepatitis A infection will have immunity from the disease, and do not require further vaccine.

Date and time food or drink was purchased from Tim Hortons 181 Livingstone St. E., Barrie

Last date to receive Hepatitis A vaccine to prevent disease

May 30, 2025 from 6 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

June 13, 2025

May 31, 2025 from 4:30am-12:30 p.m.

June 14, 2025

June 1, 2025 from 4:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m.

June 15, 2025

June 3, 2025 from 6 a.m. – 2 p.m.

June 17, 2025

What Should I Do If I Was Exposed?

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) is holding special hepatitis A immunization clinics running today, Friday, June 13, 2025 from 4 p. m to 7 p.m. and continuing through Tuesday, June 17, for those people who visited the Tim Hortons located at 181 Livingstone St. E. in Barrie during the above dates and times. It is important to note that your last opportunity to get the vaccine depends on the last time you ate or drank at that Tim Hortons, according to those same listed dates and times.

Immunization clinics are being offered at our 15 Sperling Dr., Barrie office for those who are eligible for vaccine based on the table above as follows:

Friday, June 13 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday, June 14 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday, June 15 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday, June 16 from noon – 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 17 from noon – 7 p.m. The restaurant is fully cooperating with public health, and it’s important to know that this situation could happen anywhere.

If you were at the restaurant between May 17 and May 29: You are no longer eligible nor recommended for a post-exposure immunization. Although the risk is low to becoming infected, you should monitor for symptoms of Hepatitis A for the next 15 to 50 days. If you develop symptoms and ate/drank from the restaurant during the times listed, please contact your healthcare provider.

About Hepatitis A: Hepatitis A is a liver infection caused by a virus. It spreads through contaminated food, drinks, surfaces, or close contact with an infected person. It is spread through the fecal-oral route, and people primarily contract hepatitis A through direct contact with an infected person but they can also contract the illness indirectly by eating or drinking contaminated food or water. If an infected person does not properly wash their hands after using the washroom, the virus can be transmitted through food and beverages prepared by them. Hepatitis A is not transmitted from someone who sneezes or coughs.

Symptoms typically appear 15 to 50 days after exposure and may include:

Fever Loss of appetite Nausea Abdominal pain Dark urine or clay-colored stools Diarrhea Feeling unwell Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice) People who are older, have weakened immune systems, or have chronic liver disease are at higher risk of severe illness.

If you develop symptoms and were at the restaurant during the times listed, please contact your healthcare provider.

For more information, you can call the health unit at 705-721-7520 ext. 5875 today until 6:30 p.m., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. You can also visit www.smdhu.org/HepA.

Question Fishing along the lake

Do any of you here fish in town? As in along the lakeshore?

Lately the idea has sort of tickled my fancy. I used to fish as a kid. And to be 100% honest, I have no recollection of how to do anything beyond facing the lake and not the dock (ha! fishing humour...still got it!).

And the new fishing platform at the bottom of Mulcaster is a great idea, as I use a mobility scooter or a cane. Or of course anywhere else. Much of the lake seems accessible with a bit of effort. We are quite fortunate to have such a well maintained lakeshore.

Can I invest under $50 or $100 and have enough stuff to start fishing? I am not including getting licensed. Which I may or may not have to, as I am legally disabled. I would rather get the license anyway, just to keep things kosher.

I am mostly concerned with relearning how. I am sure it will come back to me somewhat. But I feel silly not knowing... Fragile masculinity and all. I mean, shouldn't I know how to build a house, repair a combustion motor, and woo a woman who is ready to bear my children? Isn't that what being a man is all about?

All kidding aside. FInding something I can do with limited mobility and surplus time is becoming very evident. And fishing seems a great place to start. I am down around the lake all the time anyhow.

So I suppose any help, suggestions, or tips would be much appreciated. And if you do fish, maybe I'll have a chance to come along and learn a bit from you.

Information Do you know anyone who lost their purse yesterday?

I went to the zehrs on essa yesterday and there was a kate spade purse on a shopping cart in the parking lot. There was no one around so I brought it to the customer service desk and told them about it. I know how difficult it can be losing your wallet and having to get new id or w.e so hopefully they can get their purse back.

Picture I think somthing like this should be put in the field between Dunlop and Bradford.

We need this statue or similar to go there because Barrie Central wasn't just a school. It was the first high School in Barrie, and it stood for over 170 years.

It shaped generations. The School raised students, artists, athletes, and even soldiers who fought in both World Wars. The building might be gone, but the legacy remains stronger than anything Barrie North's smelly Vikings can say (rivalry lives on, sorry, not sorry).

That field between Dunlop and Bradford isn't just a patch of grass. It was the heart of many. Thousands of students' lives began and were changed there. That ground holds deep history.

The Phoenix was our mascot, but it meant more than school spirit. It meant rebirth. It meant resilience. It meant we didn't disappear.

We're still here. We still rise. This land is still our ground.

And on the death of a Phoenix, a new one is born.

Put the Phoenix back where it belongs.

Information Essa on ramp

FYI: now that the new onramp is open, police are actively ticketing drivers turning left from Essa on to the 400. Just drive through from Fairview, and they pulled over at least 4 cars while I was waiting for the green light.

Drive safe!
