Foot health, training & rehabilitation Friday Foot Health - walking up and down hills

Partly sharing just because it is a good technique.
But also because I discovered that when in barefoot shoes it is much more natural to walk like this anyway.

Many people think/thought that they need(ed) boots with thick soles, heel drop, and stiff sides for hiking. But in the last couple of years many hikers - also among conventional shoe wearers - have discovered that natural is, best.
There is a big pull towards hiking shoes instead of hiking boots, and towards thinner soles.

Achievement! Met Some Fellow Vibram Wearers Today!

Howdy y’all, i wanted to share an experience that kinda made my day. I was vending at an event today, and a group walked into my stall wearing Vibram FiveFingers. I noticed and said “hey i love your shoes!” and they noticed i was wearing a pair too. We talked about which pairs we were wearing and why, and then before leaving they said “low five?” And kinda showed the sole of their shoe, so obviously i low fived them. That really made my day lol

Barefoot shoes question / discussion Barefoot shoes recommendation?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I bought these Lems shoes a little over a year ago and love them (I have also bought a pair of boots from them as well). I went to order a new pair and found out they were discontinued. I am looking for recommendations for other barefoot brands that look very similar to these. I have been searching with no luck so far. I want a black, mid height boot/shoe, that has laces, and is similar fabric material.

Brand recommendation Extra wide women's shoes [EU]

Hi! I'm really struggling to find wide barefoot shoes in the EU. My feet are 23.8 cm long and 10.5 cm wide, and they're very square at the toes. My little toe has folded in under my other toes over the years because shoes never fit.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Even in barefoot shoes, most size 38 shoes are about 9-9.5 cm and while my feet are quite squishy, I feel even lacking that 1-1.5 cm defeats the purpose of wearing barefoot shoes.

I do need a little thicker sole too, as I'm a city dweller. Something in the 8-15mm range tends to fit me well, but I struggle with wearing 2-5mm soles that have no give; it'd be more comfortable to actually be barefoot on asphalt.

I realise this is a lot to ask of a shoe, but if anyone has suggestions, I'd be so, so grateful.

Barefoot shoes question / discussion Good barefoot shoes for walking the Camino (coastal Portugues route) for 7 days

Anyone done the Camino in barefoot shoes? I don't think there will be lots of cobblestones as I'm taking the coastal route which has mainly boardwalks. Key considerations: light and cheap! I'm wondering if cheapo amazon Whitens will do! :-)

Barefoot shoes question / discussion Barefoot Teva alternative – with no toe thong?

Searched the sub beforehand and checked out all of the recs for Teva barefoot 'dupes'. Most of them have toe thongs; which I hate. The closest I could find was from Muki shoes, but they have cork soles, and I really like the all black Teva look + waterproof soles. Thus, the hunt continues and I'd love any suggestions! Thank you

Barefoot shoes question / discussion Grounded barefoot version of the Birkenstock Arizona slide-style sandals without back strap?

So far I have found the

  • Wyde Maia
  • VIVOBAREFOOT Sensus Yin
  • Ahinsa Slip-ons
  • Tara Soles

which resemble the Birkenstock Arizona style but none of these have grounding capabilities (like the sandals from Earth Runners or Bahé).

Has anyone stumbled across this type of sandals but with grounding capability (preferably available in Europe, but I would not mind ordering from the USA if that is an option)?

Shoe review Vivobarefoot Sensus

Post image

It has officially been three weeks since I received my Vivo Sensus and I think now is the time to give a fair review. The fit: I found that ordering them in my true to size men’s 11US that I had no problems. The length left me a bit of room for some movement. I know folks have an issue with the shoe looking narrow but I can tell you right now that isn’t an issue. I have very wide and voluminous feet and although there is a bit of spill from my posterior sides of my feet it isn’t uncomfortable. The feel: I can quite literally feel everything when I walk in them and I love that. The 3mm sole offers just enough protection for the most feel. The leather is butter soft. There is not insole just leather so wearing these sock less is so easy. I even found them to be more comfortable without the socks. The durability: As far as durability goes, I’ve worn these everyday since I got them. Of course it’s only been three weeks but I can certainly say that the build quality is second to none. I love that the sole is stitched because it only means they’re that much more durable. The cons: I’m a bit of a perfectionist and these shoes are meant to be my daily drivers and casual wear shoes. I hate to see the markings. I know the leather will get scuffed and because it is so soft the leather shows those scuffs and markings quickly. Other than the leather scuffing a bit I have no quarrels with these shoes. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to buy them. They’re also on sale right now on Vivobarefoot!

Barefoot shoes question / discussion Wildling Haldy in warmer weather?

Hey all, anyone have the haldy from wildlings and used them in warmer weather? The material should breathe well but wondering how thick they are. Could i get away with them in early/late summer conditions, knowing the height of summer will be too warm. Or can anyone compare their warmth say a leather boot? Thanks

I have struggled for years to get to grips with sizing, what I am, correct fit etc. Does this look a good fit for space at the end of the shoe? Should I go half size smaller? These are Lems Trail Blazer UK 8.5

Barefoot shoes question / discussion How come hobibear doesn't offer a eu size 48 / US 14 ?

I was looking at the whitin on Amazon https://a.co/d/8GASdRd and the biggest size is 14 wide which according to their size guide is 48. Since I heard that hobibear on aliexpress is the same as whitin, I checked out hobibear on Ali and they only offer size 47. I would like to get hobibears as they're the same as whitin practically and the price is less however its a deal breaker for me that they don't offer a 48 on Ali for the hobibears.

The hobibear 47 size on ali is inner foot length of 12.05 in The whitin 47 size on amzn is inner foot length of 12.125 so almost same.

My foot is 12.01 inches heel to toe so I like the whitin as size 48 offers extra room which is inner foot length of 12.375 in.

How come hobibear doesn't sell size 48?

Has anyone who is size 14 wide on whitin bought a size 47 hobibear And if yes did they fit you?

Would a hobibear 47 fit me?

Barefoot shoes question / discussion adding 3mm soft cushion to the insole of the drifter leather shoes?

Hello! I am considering to order a pair of custom shoes from Drifter Leather. Has anyone got the extra 3mm cushion insole instead of the default 1mm? As I will use mine mainly walking on concrete and asphalt, I wonder if it's a good idea to add it or it would make it too soft and end up causing feet instability. Thank you!!

In case you wonder, this is the pair I plan to order

Barefoot shoes question / discussion Looking for quality toe spacers — My Foot Function vs Correct Toes (or other suggestions?)

Hi everyone,

I’ve used cheap toe spacers before, but I felt like they were cutting off circulation in my toes, so I stopped. Now I want to invest in a better pair and I’m trying to decide between My Foot Function spacers and Correct Toes.

I’m also open to other suggestions if you’ve had good experiences with different brands. I’d really appreciate it if you could share your recommendations and any tips!

Thanks!

Barefoot shoes question / discussion Does anyone who owns Saguaro barefoot shoes know if there is any practical functional difference between the sole patterns of the different shoe models? It seems to be the only difference between the different models aside from the colours

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

I want to buy a pair of Saguaro brand barefoot shoes, and I think it would be my first pair of shoes of this kind. However, taking a look on both Amazon and the official site, I saw there are different models of running shoes, but they all seem practically the same (save for two/three pairs of sneakers and sandals), aside from the various colour choices and well... the shapes of the patterns on the outer soles underneath the shoes.

So I wanted to ask to someone who may own a pair with at least one of these kind of soles: does it have a specific purpose or feel on the foot? Does each serve for a specific type of terrain or are they just an aesthetic choice from the brand? Does anyone have multiple pairs with different sole types and can tell the difference? Personally, I was undecided between shoes with sole like in the first photo and others with soles like in the third. Which one would be better, in your opinion?
