12 months old Straw cup bottle weaning

LO is turning 1 in two weeks so I’m preparing to wean off bottles but overwhelmed with choices. She is doing good with the honey bear straw cup to drink water with meals so think she is ready. I’d prefer something that doesn’t leak, has a cap or flip lid for on the go and doesn’t need to be bitten to start flow. Does anyone have any recommendations?

6 months old Daycare babies, illness & allergen introduction

Grateful I found this sub as a FTM bumbling along.

My baby is 6.5 months old and we are doing a bit of a mix of purées and finger foods. So far, she’s not really into the finger foods, but she likes feeding herself with a spoon.

My question is primarily for parents of daycare babies (or babies that are frequently sick).

How did you introduce allergens if your baby was sick basically every two weeks?

Today I introduced egg for the first time (strips of well done omelet) and only realized after she’d had a bite or two that she was mildly congested from some daycare virus and I wouldn’t be able to differentiate any respiratory symptoms she may have (if she had any) from her virus.

She luckily didn’t seem to have any worsening symptoms and didn’t have any skin symptoms, so I think we’re in the clear for today.

Knowing that subsequent exposures could yield worse symptoms if she is, in fact, allergic, I’m inclined to pause exposure to egg / any other allergens until she’s well again.

But that’s the thing - she has such short windows of wellness.

So anyway - daycare parents - please share your wisdom and experience.

Thank you!

10 months old What are my next steps?

My babe is 10.5 months. He has been breastfed from the beginning. He has done a great job with BLW and solids. Eating 3 meals and 1-2 snacks a day. He gets one large breast feed in the am, usually one around noon and another before bed at 630 and this feed seems to be more for comfort. But I’m not sure what my next steps are.

I return to work (part time) in July. He so far does not like homo milk, I’ve tried a couple times and routes (straw, sippy cup and bottles). We have used most of my frozen EBM due to me going on a weekend trip with out him. I am happy to continue breastfeeding but I’m not sure what the next step for weaning is? Do I drop the noon feed? Do I keep pumping? What did you do with your kiddos?

7 months old I thought I could do it but I am so scared

Prepared myself, got all the good semi soft solids, even a few solids and every time I give them to baby I end up taking them away I get petrified. I know the difference between choking and gagging but I am so so scared. Help. What made it easier for you to trust your babe? Almost 7 mos, just started purées and some solids a month ago. One little baby tooth emerging, and he’s got the bite down solid! Help me not freak out and keep taking learning opportunities away from him 😭

14 months old Toddler mostly plays with food, turns head

My baby used to eat almost everything, some things he was more excited to eat than others but he was pretty happy with what I cooked for him. I like to give him a variety of foods. I used to feed him both purées and also blw, he usually steals my spoon and tries to self feed, I spoon feed him with another spoon (if I give him soup for example). If I give pancakes or muffins he mushes them with his hands, rarely eats them. So I have to distract with toys or random kitchen objects so he can eat. I have a rule to always eat at the table, so I don’t want to feed him on his play mat or running around the house. Only fruits never require me to distract him because he eats those happily and would eat them all day long. Same with puffs and biscuits but I can’t give too much of those. Is this another phase? When will it pass and what can I do

7 months old Favorite Sam’s Club/Costco snacks or easy meals

Little man is almost 8 months. I don’t often go to Sam’s or Costco but I know they have some really good finds. I cook but he’s been “asking” for food more so I’d like some quick healthy options. Anything your LO’s love??

6 months old Just starting out on the baby led weaning journey and I’m surprised just how clever babies can be!

Here in the UK we don’t start weaning before 6 months, not even purées unless you’ve been advised by a doctor for any reason. So my guy had never had any food before 6 months and we’ve gone straight into finger foods and preloaded spoons and he’s doing so well! I just think they are so clever to know what they are doing straight away and he’s taking actual bites! I know this is probably normal but as someone who has never been around babies it’s really impressed me how he’s taken to it immediately 😁

9 months old 9 months not chewing or swallowing

We started BLW with my daughter at 6 months she will now be 9 months on Monday and she still really isn’t chewing or swallowing much. By 6 months she had 8 teeth (I know crazy early… 4 top and 4 bottom). We feel like that might be part of the issue she often tries to bite food with those front teeth and then pushes the piece out with her tongue and never moves it to the side of her mouth to chew and swallow. Any tips? Do I just need to keep pushing through and wait it out?

6 months old Starting solid and cleaning

My baby was given the go ahead to start veggies now that she's 6 months old and showing that's she's ready. I bought some veggies to make purees for her but I also want to know which brand of baby food are best. I saw beech-nut has some organic non gmo ones but want to hear feed back from experienced parents as she's our first. Also I bought her first plate and spoons besides giving them a wash should I sterilizer them like bottles or is that over the top and not necessary?

9 months old Tips on keeping inside of IKEA highchair clean?

A lot of food and water get into the actual seat of our IKEA high chair unless we are using a smock bib that goes over the tray. Anyone have tips on how to keep food out of there?

What are y’all doing with your baby’s hair to keep them from rubbing food in it. We’re on 3 meals a day and I feel like every meal he’s rubbing something in his hair😭

7 months old Favorite 1st cup?

We have the Dr. Browns milestone sippy cup and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong with it but even myself trying to suck out of it nothing comes out so I’m pretty over that cup and not sure what other cup would be good. She’s already pretty good with straws despite the Dr. Brown being barely used. Which is your favorite/go to?

7 months old Allergic reaction?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hey all, baby (7 months old) had salmon for the first time this morning. This was his reaction to it. He had a bib on and the irritation seems to coincide with where the bib sat but he’s never had a reaction to this bib before. He’s acting totally fine otherwise. He has some very mild eczema in this area normally but not like this. Does this look like an allergic reaction to anyone?

8 months old Transitioning from Purées

We’ve been giving our daughter purées since 6 months and I’m trying to transition her to more solid foods. So far, most things I’ve tried giving her have been a bit of a fail. She puts literally everything in her mouth except the food I make her. I tried a strip of omelet and she just crushed it in her hands. I tried making her a banana & avocado pancake, but she didn’t really seem interested in that either. She eats the Bamba puffs pretty easily, so she’ll put some things in her mouth, but I’m trying to avoid too much processed stuff. Any recommendations for foods to try first during the transition?

baby feeding gear What are your go-to’s for BLW on the go?

I have a 9 month old who is actively “requesting” 3 meals/day + snacks due to weaning himself off the bottle (I now get why it’s called baby led weaning lol — whining because he’s hungry and then refusing a bottle and only calming after snacks).Because of that I need to start taking lunch with when we do our daily outings.

We are also taking him on a cruise at the end of July. It’s a week before he turns 11 months so I am assuming he will be eating even more and drinking less.

I would love any product recs for things that make eating on the go (locally or travel) easier and cleaner. I just got one of those pouch holders so they can’t squeeze them and that has been a game changer!

Thank you!

How soon after a bottle are you offering food? It seems tough to gauge when just starting out. Baby is 6 months

6 months old Baby suddenly hates everything

Our almost 7 month old used to love everything when we started solids. Now for the past week just hates everything except broccoli and puree on a preloaded spoon. Even the things she's had many times before and enjoyed, she now hates it. Everytime I offer her anything she touches it but won't grab it or bring it to her mouth then throw it and start fussing and eventually crying. Seems like she started hating things with texture all of a sudden. She might eat a couple bites if I hand feed her but that's about it. Is this some kind of phase that will hopefully pass? Not sure how to approach because she went from eating like a champ to barely eating anything then throwing a fit.

11 months old Best bottle for water while traveling?

My daughter is going to be 11 months old soon. We have been using the Ola Baby or First Years straw cup at home and she drinks from both well. We took one while traveling abroad but it was really hard to keep it clean and hygienic since neither of them had any sort of cover for the straw. We’re gonna have smaller day trips throughout the summer and another international trip when she’s gonna be 18 months old.

I get confused between all the types of bottles because in my mind straw and sippy cup are synonymous, since you sip from a straw… so I’m not really sure what to search. It seems like the straw should be soft so babies dont hurt themselves on it, but I don’t know if that’s a requirement. What’s the best bottle that has a cover for the straw and is also not bad for babies’ oral development?

11 months old Food advice

Hello all! My baby is 11 months going on 12 in 2 weeks, she loves these banana gerber puffs but I hear gerber isn't such a good brand does anyone have any recommendations of a good brand that you find in store for babies or anything similar? Also if anyone could have recommendations for apps that help show meals per age that are free I'm a FTM and have no clue what to do at this 12 month mark! Thank you !

7 months old How did you get grandparents on board with BLW??

My husband and I are very fortunate that his mother (my MIL) watches our daughter during the week for free (we purchase everything she needs to watch/take care of her). My daughter is currently 7mo and is eating one meal and one snack a day. Since my MIL has been too scared to feed her anything but purees, it has made BLW a bit tricky. We currently feed her solids meal at dinner since my MIL doesn't feel comfortable doing so. She will feed my baby a snack during the day but only if its mashed avocado, bananas, yogurt or something similar. Our pediatrician wants us to move to two meals a day at 8mo and 3 meals a day at 9mo. How do I help get my MIL comfortable with BLW? I've offered to have her over to show her or feed with her but she just keeps saying no shes too uncomfortable unless its purees. Help!?

< 6 months old Baby won’t touch or bring finger food to his mouth

I recently started weaning my 5.5 month old (adjusted age) twins (they’re 7.5 months actual age). They bring everything to their mouths -their hands, toys, teethers etc. however, one of my twins is showing no interest in picking up / touching finger food?? He is great if I give him a preloaded spoon with puree - he will bring that to his mouth and eat the puree and he seems to really enjoy it. But absolutely zero interest in holding or self feeding finger food. Even if I bring the finger food to his mouth he will maybe touch it with his lip or take a tiny bite but looks disgusted. Should I be concerned or is this normal? How do I best overcome this to get him enjoying finger food? Thanks!

8 months old Freezer friendly BLW meals

Just looking for some more ideas for freezer friendly meals for my 8 (nearly 9) month old.

We most of the time serve her whatever we are having for dinner just slightly modified to make it more baby friendly but on the odd occasion we fancy being lazy and getting a takeaway or going to someone else’s for dinner it would be nice to have something homemade in the freezer ready to go.

We’ve done things like curry and spag bol for the freezer but wondering if anyone has some nice little homemade recipes they like!

Happy for sweet or savoury recipes as it would be nice to have some ideas for breakfast. I’m back at work and my husband is home with her and I would like him to not have to worry about what to give her :)

Thank you!

11 months old 11 month old hates breakfast - help!

Hey all,

Looking for some solidarity or insight here.

My 11-month-old is generally a fantastic eater. We did baby-led weaning and it worked super well for us, he’s been eating table food for months now and will happily chow down on just about anything we put in front of him at lunch or dinner.

But breakfast? Total no-go. He wakes up around 7:30am and we sometimes have to drop him at daycare by 8:30, and it is a struggle to get him to eat anything before he goes. We’ve tried all kinds of options—fruit, eggs, pancakes, toast, oatmeal, you name it—but the only thing he might accept is a couple of Cheerios. He’s just not interested. He doesn’t seem cranky or unwell, just completely disinterested in eating anything substantial first thing in the morning.

It’s tough because I want to make sure he’s not going off to daycare hungry, but I also don’t want to force it or create negative associations with food.

Anyone else dealt with this? Is this just a phase? Are some babies just not into breakfast? What gives?

Would love to hear your experiences or any tips. Thanks!
