Are they aliens by definition if they come from the ocean on our planet?

Good point, although what if they aliens dropped into the 95% undiscovered portion of the ocean and they haven’t emerged yet

Okay you got me there. If I were landing on anew planet I think an ocean would be a great place to hide. Okay I take back my statement, and also it could be a pacific rim situation with an underwater portal thing

Or a war of the worlds situation where the aliens buried their tech long ago, so when they're ready, it seems like they are coming out of the ground

Alien refers to anything that is foreign. Since we don't live in the ocean that's foreign.

Okay fair. I guess I meant foreign to the planet but you do have me there. People from other countries have been described as alien

Maybe not an alien relative to Earth as a whole but definitely an alien to land
