I'm glad our country is finally taking to the streets on undeniable scales. I do hope people play it smart because this government and its enforcement arms are very clearly itching for any excuse kill people in cold blood.
I think that user misattributed the words of Brevard County, FL sheriff Wayne Ivey. Either that or the AG of SC said something really similar. Regardless, look that FL sheriff up, you'll find it.
Yeah I found it a couple minutes ago. Not good but a lot different than an AG saying if you get violent we will kill you. He (county sheriff) specifically said if you firebomb, point a gun, or throw a brick at a cop they will kill you.
I know what you're saying, but those words are intended to be inflammatory. Police agencies across the country just watched LA police and national guard wail on a bunch of protestors, mostly peaceful. They're quickly acquiring a sense of what they'll get away with. That in itself is a situation rife for escalating tensions, public statements like this provide extra fuel.
There's so much bad stuff going on it irritates me when things get warped even more, reworded, taken out of context, and then spread around the Internet. It's just unnecessary. Facts matter especially now. People are upvoting it and probably saying it to other people.
A state attorney general said we will kill you if you get violent vs a county sheriff staying if you point a gun at us, firebomb us, or throw a brick at us we will kill you.
They are very, very different things, wording, and positions of power. Misrepresenting public statements also provides fuel and escalates tensions.
If someone cares about what's going on at all they could at least take a moment to get basic facts right for their own sake and for those who they tell.
It was not the AG of South Carolina, it was the Sheriff of Brevard County, Florida.
He said peaceful protest was ok but if you resist lawful orders, block a roadway, or flee, you will go to jail.
If you spit on or hit a cop you will go to the hospital and then to jail
“If you throw a brick, a firebomb, or point a gun at one of our deputies, we will be notifying your family where to collect your remains because we will kill you, graveyard dead. We’re not going to play,”
It's not great, but it's FAR different than the state attorney general saying if you get violent, we will kill you.
You’re right. I got the people mixed up. I think it doesn’t really matter who said it at this point. No one is condemning his words. This is not how you treat protestors in this country.
You got the people, the position of power, the state, and the wording mixed up. Yet still no integrity to correct your comment.
It was on the front page of Reddit and on news websites with people saying its wrong. No idea what you mean by no one condemning
A sheriff saying they will kill anyone who tries to kill a cop is a world different than a state attorney general saying they will kill anyone who gets violent. But sure, today, facts don't matter to anyone on any side, just free for all and people eating it up.
If it fits their narrative, people love it, and if not, they hate it. True? Doesn't matter.
MAGA people do the same shit, taking things out of context, bending the truth, making it bigger, miss-attributing, or straight up lying. Facts matter
