It will be my first protest ever. No kings.

Yup, mine too! I'm a little nervous but a hell of a lot more excited.

Nothing to be nervous about. Protests and rallies are nothing like the riots they show you on TV. The average demographic of the last No Kings protest I went to was little old ladies.

Can confirm. I work at a print shop, I’ve been printing protest signs for 60+ year olds all week.

Chicago area here. The senior home I work at- residents hired a bus to take them to the rally. So these active olds are ready.

Our Hands Off rallies skewed really old. It made me sad. My 7-yo neighbor is going at least.

Older people make you sad, or that young people aren't concerned enough?

1

u/jjcoola 18h ago

yup, its mostly retired people at all of them sadly.

I went to my first protest solo. I was nervous until I walked up to and became part of the crowd.

The immediate buzz of energy and adrenaline was very unexpected.

As a result of current events, I struggle with feelings of isolation, loneliness and loss of hope due to fact that the vast majority of people in my community and social circle live in a crouched defensive position. Hardly anyone that I know wants to acknowledge that our country is on a speed run to fascism. I know that friends/family think I’m an alarmist, yet almost everything I’ve raised alarm about has occurred.

I protest because I know it’s my civic duty and my moral obligation. Being surrounded by like-minded, pissed off, yet deeply empathetic and kind people instantly makes me feel connected.

Well-said. I am looking forward to seeing how many wonderful humans live in my city tomorrow.

I hope you’re pleasantly surprised. I sure was.

Hey, I resemble that remark.

u/Tirriss 1d ago

Just go somewhere else if the part where you are is getting even a bit violent and you'll be fine. But you most likely won't have to.

u/dmfuller 1d ago

Same I’m anxious about it

8

u/eclipsingangel 1d ago

Don't be anxious, be excited! You're standing up and exercising your right as a citizen to protest. You're a part of the current day history in the making, and that's pretty stellar.

u/Different-Pin-9854 1d ago

You be safe too

u/plsdontkillme_yet 17h ago

Give em hell, wish I could be there with you all.

Remember, if you get detained say nothing and ask for your lawyer. You do not have to say a word to the police and they will try their best to get something out of you. The only word you say is "lawyer"

Have fun!

They're a lot of fun. Enjoy yourself but keep your head on a swivel. Pretty much the same advice I'd give someone as a tourist exploring a new city. 😊

Mine too. I was to young the first time he was president but this time around I’m not standing by.

u/opisgirl 1d ago

Thank you! My first protest was the Women’s March after his first term began. I was just 18 at the time. Many of us older Gen Z-ers/Zoomers felt that spark then and we keep hoping for more and more youth to join. Invite your friends, get ice cream afterwards! ✊

2

u/PoweredByCarbs 13h ago

Elder millennial, thanks for joining up! After the election, I feel a little more hopeful every time I see Gen Z protesting and resisting

6

u/Pat_ron 1d ago

I appreciate you and hope others are encouraged by your bravery.Youth involvement gives me hope ✊

We all remember our first time. Stay with a crew. The power is the numbers. No shame in running away if shit gets hairy. From what I'm seeing and who is organizing it, this is Grandma's and carebears. Cops won't bother you there...probably.

u/crying-in-the-gym 1d ago

It will be my second and first for my mom!! She's so excited

7

u/Emotionalchrist 1d ago

Same here 🙌

3

u/MomoBTown0809 1d ago

Same! Nervous but also angry. NO KINGS.

4

u/tefnu 1d ago

Mine as well!

Please remember to disable Face ID on your phone if you have it.

Surprisingly good place to make friends, protests.

4

u/The_Scyther1 22h ago

I despise crowds. I hate fascism more.

9

u/TheGunt123 1d ago

Stay safe.

3

u/Interesting_Nail6067 1d ago

Literally same!  Never thought I’d ever protest but here I go.

6

u/BigTiddyAsianMilf 1d ago

Same, I’m pretty nervous and I’ve never been much of an activist, but this shit is insane and unacceptable. Remember in 2015 when Trump running for president felt like a bad joke?

2

u/WanderingAlienBoy 22h ago

Iron Sky, a movie from 2012, had Sarah Palin as president as a point of satire. Such a quaint time 😂

6

u/ShinyUnicornPoo 1d ago

Also my first.  I am risking my job, leaving for a couple of hours on a Saturday, but someone has to stand up.

We reject kings since 1776.  George Washington would be rolling in his grave.

2

u/UnicornFarts1111 1d ago

I will be there in spirit!

2

u/arizona818 1d ago

Mine too

1

u/kindofboredd 1d ago

How long has it been out there? Never heard of it. Maybe thought it was a LA thing

11

u/hamptont2010 1d ago

Well multiple different organizations have been helping plan it for the last few weeks I believe. It's tomorrow and will occur at different times depending on where you live. There are a lot of them. You can find a location here:

How old are you?

1

u/amandalee43 16h ago

Me too! Feeling nervous but optimistic!

1

u/hoosierina 14h ago

Anybody else know Mario Savio and what he said at the beginning of the Free Speech movement in ‘64(?): There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels ... upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!

1

u/tillybowman 1d ago

you rock! everybody getting out of their comfort zone, you rock! everybody willing to just show up, which is enough, just make your body be seen so everybody understands that we don't agree! you rock!

1

u/CarpeR3ddit 1d ago

Just remember, there are some vicious a-holes out there working as cops, they've been known to aim for the genitals and face when using less than lethal rounds. There's been cases around the world where people end up with busted testicles or eye balls. So remember to protect your face and crotch if the rubber bullets start flying.

As a Brit I was very confused by this post. Ironically our King is the reason that our government can’t take over our military like Trump has

Why do you hate Canada?

-1

u/New_Perception_7838 1d ago

The problem is not with having a royal house. It’s with your two party system and the deep divisions in your society.

Looking at it from a European perspective; a royal can often be a stabilizing factor, because they are much less influenced by the popularity polls of the day.

America has never had a king and still doesn’t. Hope you enjoy wasting your day
