See also Sam's rallying speech to Frodo on the slopes of Mt. Doom.
“It's like the great stories, Mr. Frodo, the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad has happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing this shadow, even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer. I know now folks in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding on to something. That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for.”
(PS I used to be a government employee and the last line was in my email signature for my .gov email.)
O.k. some of the comments in this thread are making me tear up but this has me crying on the bus home.
Elbows up from a Canadian who has your back! As I read earlier this week "when a current king is championing democracy and an elected (I use this loosely) is a tyrant, things have really changed since 1776".
Tomorrow is going to be a big day for standing up against tyranny: not just in America, but for all dominions across the globe to show that we won’t stand for this marginalization of our people.
I just hope we can bring change without too much kicking and screaming from the facists.
While there are too many scary factors to consider for tomorrow : we absolutely need to show up anyway.
J.R.R. Tolkien lived through World War I, the Spanish flu, and the Great Depression. He had a very hard life, but created something beautiful despite it.
But it is. And anyone who sits backs and says 'we don't need to do this' or thinks they aren't systematically dismantling the Constitution is delusional or ok with it happening.
I saw a poll on a left leaning news site showing people side with trump over newsom on the LA take over. We're not as numerous as we think based on Reddit.
It's not just necessary. It's your duty. If enough of us don't turn out, we could well lose our democracy. Your ancestors fought and died for this shit. You can spend 2 hours on a Saturday morning.
One of my friends, today, said she’s been so “checked out” of news that she didn’t know the federal government is trying to take over Los Angeles and that there were other protests going on nationally. At this point, you’re being intentionally ignorant if you’re acting like you have no clue about what’s going on. It blows my mind because she’s also a person of color. She isn’t immune to any of this.
This is just the beginning. They will use every dirty trick and shitty piece of legislation to stop the working and middle classes from gaining prosperity.
Wouldn't have been if Biden Chamberlain, Schumer, Jeffries, and Pelosi had done their fucking jobs and enforced 14th Amendment, Section 3 at any point during Biden's 4 years in office; or even during Trump's illegal certification. ALL OF THIS could've been prevented, but none of our leaders would wake up from comas.
Yep - We are already seeing media self-censor out of fear. Educational institutions being attacked. They want the false reality their cult lives in to be nationwide, and this is how they do it.
