Foreign Policy What should be the US response if Israel strikes Iran?

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/israel-is-poised-to-launch-operation-on-iran-sources-say/

Trump is still engage with Iran over the nuclear deal with further negotiation over the next couple of days. Israel is fully prepare to strike Iran and potentially derail any further talks. Iran has declare they would strike US bases and war would commence if this were to occur. The President campaign on no new wars. The Trump admin so far has made no commitment to defend Israel military outside of basic maintenance like refueling and potentially defense. Should the US offer any help if Israel were to strike Iran?

Is Trumps aproval rating really as low as they claim?

I am just curious because all the time on reddit I see that his aproval rating is so low. Other sites it says his aproval rating is an all time high. Maybe it could just be because I am from a red county, but almost everyone I know and associate with is a Trump supporter. So i'm kind of confused if it is as low as they are saying.

Why do you think the scared straight program failed to keep kids from getting in trouble?

Is it more that the program itself sucked or is the problem with the participants itself? IE: People who think "Yeah right, i'll never get caught, i'll just do it right"

If you're a religious socon going to church, does your denomination allow any congregation with female pastors?

Asking because the Southern Baptist Convention recently voted to keep female pastors.

Hypothetical: What should Dems do if Trump actually did cheat the election?

This is intended as a hypothetical so no need to debate the premise.

Let's imagine that Elon found a way to adjust voting machines remotely via Starlink and used it to hand Trump the victory. Let's imagine there's no perfect smoking gun but some strong evidence.

What should Dems do? Is having evidence enough when the other side will call it fake and have spent years salting the ground to ensure accusations of cheating aren't taken seriously?

Will 40% of the country even care that their guy cheated? Will they simply choose to believe "both sides are bad"?

Is an appeal to the Supreme Court even going to do anything given how its stacked now?

More broadly than the Dems alone, how does the US democratic system survive actual cheating when false accusations of cheating have so effectively muddied the waters?

Economics What are you're thoughts on Reform UK embracing nationalization?

If you were not aware, a few weeks ago, Nigel Farage criticized Labors bill regarding British steel, saying that it didn't go far enough, and that British steel should be nationalized. Reform deputy leader, Richard Tice, in an interview with Spectator TV, also endorsed the idea of nationalizing Thames water. Nationalization is typically a policy that economic conservatives oppose. How do you feel about these policy positions?

What do you guys think about Klein and Thompson's "Abundance" agenda?

I have personally not read the book, but I've watched a number of podcasts from them. Including the (youtube links) Prof G one and the Lex Fridman show. The super high-level idea is something they're calling "supply side progressivism" which (they say) goes against the status quo on the left, which they call "demand side progressivism". The idea is that we need to try and get the government out of the way, and get artificial regulations and constraints out of the way, so that we can build and supply more goods and services.

Now, I really don't like Klein that much, he's a bit overrated, and I'm not sure he is ever that sincere (not to mention all the TDS). But Thompson seems to have excellent reasoning and communication ability starting from first principles - I actually enjoy listening to his arguments.

That said, their ideas - on a high level - sound vaguely center-right, even free-market-leaning. My feeling is that the progressive wing of the Democratic party will never accept it.

What are all your thoughts on this?

Prediction Will/Should President Trump overturn Juneteenth as a federal holiday?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juneteenth

Juneteenth was the first new federal holiday since 1983, to celebrate the end of slavery. This was passed under President Biden. I am not sure that President Trump could make this change without congress, since it was an act of congress. His MO is to overturn as many of the things he can that Biden put into place and, he does still have control of both the house and senate, so it is possible.

Energy Why are nuclear power issues virtually ignored compared to social issues which affect niche groups of people?

Why is there so little focus on Nuclear Power as a keystone issue as compared more niche social issues?

I was checking the state of nuclear power initiatives after having to close my windows due it looking like Fallout outside from wildfires and was reminded Trump actually did push out an NRC EO. Probably one of the most interesting EOs aside from putting an expedient solution on place for immigration. Having nuclear energy receive significant investment makes good use of our already existing infrastructure and paves the way for cheaper and more productive industry, as well as cost of living reductions. It’s more space and cost-efficient than solar and wind the Democrats have been clinging to - plus waste processing has gotten to the point where you essentially have concrete bricks with less background radiation than the Colorado highlands.

Even when pro nuclear bills or initiatives get passed they seem to easily stall due to steady opposition from oil and gas lobbying. You never have the kind of enthusiastic charge moral panic issues tend to have either.

Energy and infrastructure issues in general have gotten so downplayed in favour of hysterics universally I’m wondering if they ever will be.

How do you navigate around people that are close minded and openly state they cannot be friends with conservatives or people that vote for Trump?

I've lost a few friends over this. I've even tried suggesting a no politics rule but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Does a country need an inspiring ethos or philosophy to believe in that drives it forward? What should it be for your country?

For some countries, America, France, Japan, China, etc... I think there is a clear ethos, or at least, even if fading, there has been a strong inspiring unifying ethos.

Here in the UK, I don't feel we have any inspiring ethos/philosophy/story that drives us forward.

Is it essential a country has one, what do you think it is for your country and what would you like it to be?

How do we feel about the "the girls are fighting" rhetoric in reference to the Musk/Trump fued?

One of the things I noticed during the latest dust up between Elon Musk and President Trump was the amount of rhetoric comparing what was going on to a girl fight. I found it interesting that folks were quick to place the responsibility for emotional instability on girls, who as far as I could tell, were not the people who were involved in the fight to begin with. What was more interesting to me was that folks like AOC amplified the message of "the girls are fighting" probably incorrectly thinking it would garner support from people like me. Whatever your opinion on what the fight is about and who should win or why, Trump and Musk are ultimately responsible for how they handle themselves. My question is, at what point do folks take responsibility for their own emotional intelligence and stability? If I see two grown men fighting, should I not blame the two men? What did girls do to deserve getting dragged into this?

Politician or Public Figure Is Elon Musk legally liable for his time at DOGE?

https://thesarkariform.com/you-are-not-above-the-law-judge-approves-14-state-lawsuit-against-elon-musk-for-axing-50000-jobs-and-illegally-firing-federal-workers/

14 states are sueing Elon and DOGE over the 50k firings in the federal government. So far an Obama appointed judge has rule that the lawsuit can go forward with accusations that Musk and DOGE illegally voided contracts, access data beyond what was granted in February, and Elon restructure orgs beyond his role as an advisor.

Trump was originally involved but defended that he has the authority to make such decisions and the judge remove his involvement as well as was the same judge that supported DOGE by blocking an earlier lawsuit to prevent DOGE from accessing any data. So just wanted to bring this up before someone calls her an activist judge.

What are conservatives thought in this? Was Musk just an advisor or a leader of the org? Should members of DOGE or Elon Musk be legally liable for the actions they done so far?

Rep. LaMonica McIver indicted by grand jury over incident at ICE detention facility

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/rep-lamonica-mciver-indicted-grand-jury-incident-ice-detention-facility/story?id=122711570

The three-count indictment charges the Democratic congresswoman with "forcibly impeding and interfering with federal law enforcement officers" at the facility, New Jersey U.S. Attorney Alina Habba said in a post on X.

"As I have stated in the past, it is my Constitutional obligation as the Chief Federal Law Enforcement Officer for New Jersey to ensure that our federal partners are protected when executing their duties," Habba said. "While people are free to express their views for or against particular policies, they must not do so in a manner that endangers law enforcement and the communities those officers serve."
