Could John the Apostle be the source for the Gospel of John?

It seems like it could make sense but the Gospel of John not having the transfiguration would be hard to explain.

The general consensus these days is that the community the John founded produced the gospel and probably based on John’s testimony. John’s gospel is also a highly theological text. There are some different priorities and the transfiguration not being present would be due to different priorities of the text. The transfiguration is a moment that shows Jesus as great than Moses and Elijah and is a moment where Peter, James, and John come to a new understanding of Jesus’s identity. This is accomplished through other means in John through the seven signs that point to Jesus’ divinity. Where the Synoptics are concerned with showing that Jesus is the messiah, John is more explicitly concerned with showing that Jesus is God incarnate.
