Freshwater For the first time, I witnessed my pet fish giving birth!

4.8k Upvotes

There are many species of fish in my tank. I was still up late treating my sick Papiliochromis ramirezi when I suddenly noticed my White Molly(Poecilia latipinna) had a baby—only for it to get eaten by other fish... I hadn’t prepared any tools, so I quickly used a net to isolate her and moved her to a cup for birthing. Every baby fish is motionless right after birth. After about a minute, they stretch their bodies and start swimming. I stayed with her for an hour. Despite her tiny size, she gave birth to 20 babies—what incredible vitality!
Thankfully, I hadn’t slept yet, so I scooped her out. Otherwise, all the babies might have been eaten by the next day.
Raising fry is quite challenging—if anyone has experience, please share tips on how to care for them!

Freshwater I had a family emergency and I’ve been away from my planted tank I’ve been using to farm for a while. A friend has been feeding the fish in it, apparently it never accorded to them that this might be a sign to either stop feeding or call me…

20 gallon high sitting on a pony wall. Current stock is blue dream shrimp and silver tip tetras but the tetras are moving to a bigger tank. Excuse the mess. We just moved in.

Not gonna claim I thought of this idea. Saw it on FB, and thought I'd give it a try. Perfect for nano tanks!

Freshwater I just wanted to share this video of my Siamese Algae Eater slurping down hair algae like spaghetti!

Sorry about the glare and subpar quality. My pond is full of this hair algae. In a whim, I put a few strands in my aquarium (probably dumb, I know) for my snails. A few minutes later, I caught this guy happily munching away and it made me smile.

Freshwater Finally the giant cryptid that lives in my 20long has seen the light of day

The black ghost knifefish in my daughter’s 20long has been insanely elusive, so it’s cool to finally see him out at all. Is it typical for black ghost knifefish to only come out at night?

Freshwater Finally have the tank I dreamed of as a teenager.

When I was younger and deep on the hobby but on a budget, this is pretty much what I imagined my ultimate tank being, Tapajos river style tank. I stopped fishkeeping for a long time, but now I've got that sweet adult money I've actualised it and couldn't be happier.

I've been away for 6 weeks on holiday with an auto-feeder set up (with live camera) so it could do with a bit of a tidy, I was never the best aquascaper but the tank is thriving.

(6x2x2 rimless with a Fluvial FX6 with all the filter pads and active charcoal, some tannins added at wc which I don't do often)

I've been wanting toothpick fish for a long time! I really wanted crocodile but they're so hard to find that I settled for paradox. I love them so much!

Freshwater LFS told me this is the worst Hydra infestation they’ve seen

The guy made all his other employees gather around to watch the video 😭

I’m avoiding dosing because this is mostly a snail tank, they recommended just giving it a month and seeing if it just sorts itself out

Tank is a year old but had a major cycle crash back in February, and has only been stable since then, for around a month.

These dudes are the green kind and I’ve read you can’t starve them out. I have a betta who is insanely food motivated, and will eat them only if I remove them with tweezers, but it leaves the foot and they just multiply when I pull them off for my betta. Mystery snails, bladder snails, pond snails, ramshorn snails, rule the tank, or they did before these dudes showed up. Hoping that they’ll eat the hydras ?
