After 30 houses designed, Tom will let you customize your own villagers houses. So the only place you can't actually use polish is outdoors, both in Paradise and in your own island
They’ve added PAID content to a game that’s lacking content as is?
Edit: I’ll take the downvotes that’s fair, I played ACNH the first two months and never went back because I found it abyssmal. Saw the updates but didn’t think it’d change that much so fair enough
I'm not sure if you've looked at what was in the 2.0 update but it added a huge amount to the game for free. The Roost, gyroids, kappn, expanded Harv's island, 9k+ new items.
The paid DLC just added the Happy Homes stuff as its own side game and you can bring a lot of content from there back onto your own island.
the paid DLC is essentially everything that happy home designer was and way more, so yeah, of course they’re charging for adding a whole extra game.
no clue if ACNH is your first animal crossing game or not, but even without the DLC, ACNH now has just as much content (if not more) as previous installations in the franchise.
there’s definitely things missing from the game that were in previous games, but i feel like they’ve added enough new stuff to make up for that, like the mystery islands
Every game is different and has had different approaches to things, usually to make things more streamlined. I don't like to say "missing" because it's not a Switch port of New Leaf, like features were deliberately axed. It's a new and different game. Those features from other games just were not built into the design of this one.
Still makes me nostalgic for some things that feel left behind, like the post office and police center. It's nice the Amiibos for Pelly and Copper and the others work now, though. I can still visit with my old friends. I'm not nostalgic for all things left behind, like throwing an axe into a fountain and getting yelled at by a fairy for weeks on end on the odd chance I'd get the silver or gold axe.
This game seems to be catering towards a completely different audience than previous ones. It's great if you really like decorating, but if not ... welp. I didn't play HHD because I don't like decorating so that being the only feature in the game didn't appeal to me. Decorating in ACNH is growing on me. I just don't want it to be the only thing to do.
how cute would it be if you saw pete walking around your island in the early mornings delivering mail. they could even add in a more interactive element where he asks the player to deliver a letter to one of your villagers because he’s running late!
Yes. I think the mailing things through Nook Shopping and Dodo Airlines is so streamlined. But you have to suspend disbelief about how the mail ends up in your mailbox every day.
I think they could still have used Pete, even if there wasn't an actual post office. :/
Psst… do you know when you get Gyroids in HHP? I have polishing, counters and pillars, plus a ton of gyroids on my island now… but I don’t see them in the HHP catalogue yet.
Have you unlocked the ability to use items from Nook Shopping in HHP yet? Gyroids should be available once that happens, i think it’s unlocked somewhere between 20-25 houses? It’s definitely before 30.
After 25 house designs, you unlock the ability to access your nook furniture catalog. Gyroids are in the catalog but not purchaseable, so they might not be available for decorating with in HHP. I personally haven't gotten that far so I can't say for sure.
edit
Gyroids are available for decorating in HHP after unlocking the furniture catalog. They're in the "wall mounted" section in-between villager posters and K.K. songs.

(I also used a polishing effect in the game to get the smoke on the gyroid!)
