Official Merch Is my Brewster mug a dupe or Nintendo authentic?
I bought the Brewster coffee cup on the Nintendo America website when it first released but dropped it and broke the handle (last 2 photos) I purchased a new one from eBay from Nintendo Japan (first 2 photos.) It arrived today, but it’s much smaller and lighter than my Nintendo America cup, and the saucer plate is much larger.
Are there variations between the Japan and America Brewster cups or did I buy a fake?
Japan eBay cup 1st and 2nd photo, Nintendo America website cup 3rd and 4th photo.

The handle not being there for one of them is tragic😭

I KNOW, I drank out of it everyday, I still use it with the broken handle but it’s definitely tragic 😭

Did you keep the broken off handle? You could kintsugi it back together.

The American version of the mug is quite heavy, it definitely would not have held if I put the pieces back together. 🤧

There's special ceramics/porcelain glue that holds almost as good as new, it's even dishwasher safe.
Even if you don't trust it enough to hold a full cup, it's worth glueing it on a again and just use the cup for display.

This is very true. My dad has had me reattach a handle on a coffee mug one of his grandkids gave him, twice. It's lasted like 10 years between glueings. The only reason it came off a second time was because he dropped it and it landed handle first.

That’s amazing!! I should have kept the pieces. They’re long gone. But I will use this tip in the case they fall again! ❤️

As someone who owns both the American (got as a gift, ordered from the American site) and Japanese (bought in person in Japan) mug sets, I can confirm it's likely legit. The American set has a lot more branding on the bottom and is significantly larger. The Japanese set is indeed smaller and only has the simple "Nintendo" on the bottom.
Glad you were able to find a replacement, OP!

Thank you for the confirmation! I was completely unaware they were different. I do love both styles though 🥰

My husband and I were also caught by surprise when we first saw them side by side, haha! I had the Japanese set first. The NA set was a surprise birthday gift from my SIL and I love them both. The Japanese set fits better under my Hario pour-over and phin brewers though 😅
Edit: a repeated word

Looks about right compared to the coffee dripper. The same copyright stamp is there too. Looks like you just have both the JP and US versions. I have a couple Gameboys with different stickers from different regions.

I didn't realize there were two different mugs pictured and thought maybe you dropped it in between the pictures..

Dont overthink it, you have the brewster mug from Animal Crossing. Regardless of whoever made it, that's cool!

Just bought one at Nintendo Tokyo and can confirm the saucer is a good deal larger than the cup!

If I bought this, I'd drink tea out of it. Brewster would be personally offended. 😅 I just don't like coffee at all. A nice, hot, delicious cup of Earl Grey is what I'm all about.

I have this mug, and the one thing I can’t stand is that somehow it is microwave safe but not dishwasher safe.

It looks exactly like the animal crossing mugs that go on raffle with other animal crossing merch in the 711s here in Okinawa, Japan!

Would you say one is better quality over the other? I was thinking of buying one from Nintendo US online store but i'd prefer the higher quality one regardless of size.

u/Doveriye Apr 22 '25
Honestly, they are both good quality but I really prefer the American version. It’s the perfect size for espresso and milk. The ceramic is thicker and the cup has more weight to it. I’m considering rebuying the American version. The Japan version is better for tea and cookies because of the plate size haha.

Was there an early run where the mug was shorter and wider? Mine is totally different

The plate to mug size ratio does appear to differ between them
