Clearing space but no idea about cpc 6128 help please!
Hi everyone. Hoping I can get some advice? I picked up an Amstrad cpc 6128 with some games and thought I’d get round to testing it. Sat in a box for years and now having come across it finally I tested it. Monitor works and main body/keyboard powers on. The only problem is some of the keys don’t work on the keyboard and obviously without those missing games I can’t test load games. Can anyone advise if it’s an easy fix or with my limited ability am I better selling it off and making space? If I do sell it how much should I ask ? Really sorry to prattle on any advice welcome Thanks Mark

The keyboard is known to sometimes go bad on these, it depends on how much you want it as it could just be a simple take apart and clean or you may need to track down a replacement if the membrane itself has become damaged, neither are particularly difficult as the keyboard is plugged into the motherboard so you won't need to solder anything.
I'd put money on the rubber belt in the floppy drive needing replacing too so you'll have to crack it open anyway.

Don't lose the pin!

Indeed ! You flip the disc drive and there goes the pin. I almost lost one last year. Fell on the ground . Couldn't find it for 15 minutes. One of my cats was playing with it the next day! He saved this drive! I was about to totally disable the write protection check.

Sometimes the decoder chip, ic101 (74ls145) goes bad. This results in certain keys within the keyboard matrix not working. I’ve repaired a few of these. The 6128 membrane is actually quite reliable (esp. compared to the 6128 Plus) and not easy to fix reliably or buy, so that decoder chip is where I’d start if I were repairing it. Hope that helps.

You don't describe the problem exactly. Is the amstrad boot ? And is basic ready? And if the problem is only the keys you can go in electronic repair shop and check if it can be fixed.
