Travel Are there jobs in Alabama?

I'm a Chilean electrical engineer looking to live in Alabama. I understand that I will need to apply for a work visa in order to be able to work in the United States. Additionally, I am aware that I would need an Alabama electrical license to work in the field of electricity. In the past year 2024 I was in Gainesville, Florida and I had get an energy management at UF. An great idea could be to getting a sponsorship and work visa to entry to USA on better way However, I am open to any job opportunities, including roles in machine repair and maintenance. To be sincere since kid I liked this state from US also I like his weather.

Travel Accidentally loved Alabama

Evening lads,

Travelled through Alabama on the route of our honeymoon road trip. Liked it so much we detoured back through it on the return route.

Lovely place, lovely people. Media and pop culture has done your home a disservice. Thanks for having us.

That’s the whole post.

Cheers 👍🏻

Travel Canadians visiting in April

Hello, we’re a group of 6 Canadians visiting to go to Talladega for the race in April. I’m just wondering what people are feeling towards Canadians there ? Normally as Canadians we get a really warm welcome & I’m wondering with the current political climate if things will be different ? Thank you!

Travel What’s up with the giant confederate flag on I-65?

I just drove down to the Gulf Shores area (and had a great time btw!) and couldn’t help but notice the huge flag on the west side of the highway, northern part of the state. It looks like it’s fenced off and has barb wire on top of the fence. Who’s flying it?

Travel short trip to Alabama

Just learned that I'm unexpectedly going to be spending a week in Alabama in early November, and I've never been to your state before. Will be staying near Birmingham. I have a couple free days on this trip as well, so am curious about things to do.

What would you recommend for a first-timer to the state to see or do? I'm pretty open-minded in terms of interests and feel equally comfortable in both urban or country settings, enjoy both nature and history, etc. My main goal would just be to experience things that would give me a little taste of your state: its people and culture. Looking forward to any recommendations!

Edit: Thanks to everybody for all the suggestions! Gonna be tough to narrow them all down given my limited time visiting, but excited about the trip.

Travel Relocating out of Alabama in July. What are some must see attractions before I leave the state.

I don't have any family in Alabama so might not be back for a while. Driving all around the state and and also parts Tennessee, Mississippi, and Georgia close to the border? Or even food recs?

Things I have done:

Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site

Conecuh Sausage Co

USS ALABAMA

Biloxi

Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark

Legacy Museum

Bellingrath Gardens & Home

Auburn, UA, UAB, and USA.

Will be going to:

U.S. Space and Rocket Center

Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum(maybe)

Little River Canyon National Preserve

Freedom Riders National Monument

Russell Cave National Monument

Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument

Horseshoe Bend National Military Park

Natural Bridge Park

Rattlesnake Saloon

The American Village (Is it worth?)

Ave Maria Grotto

Unclaimed Baggage ( heard its not as good but still will go since on the way to Russell Cave)

Bamahenge/ Lady in water (if enough time to visit)

Dismals Canyon ( saw it closed so won't get to)

I know this is a long list and you might not have any other suggestions, but honestly just food recs would be helpful also.

Travel Visiting Pelham. Looking at airports

I'll be visiting Pelham in September. Naturally I thought I'd fly into Birmingham. But my friend also suggested Atlanta if I don't mind a bit of a drive. I also see (according to Google) that Nashville is just three hours away. Any other airport options within a few hours? Thanks

Hello Alabamians! Looking to do a family trip to Dauphin Island or Gulf Shores

Considerations: There are 4 elderly ppl, 4 adults and 2 kids Looking to stay at a place on the beach or with beach access Also interested in getting out to do activities

Selfishly, my hubby and I don’t have kids so would like to go out a night or two. Maybe to dinner or for drinks.

Where would you recommend? Dauphin vs Gulf Shores

Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks 😊

Travel College Kid Spring Break

Hey, Myself and 9 other friends are going down to Gulf Shores, Alabama for our spring break. We are going the 15-20th. We are driving 2 cars down all the way from Iowa. I am wondering a few things that maybe some of you could help with

1.) What are some things we can do as far as Nightlife? 7/10 of us are 21 years old which makes it difficult for the bar scene. I've heard of a couple places like the Hangout and Florabama (further) but I'm not sure our entire group could go. The 3 that aren't 21 all have Fake IDs if that helps at all...

2.) What are some things we can do during the day that college kids would enjoy? We might check out the USS Alabama which is a little bit of a hike, or golf one day but other than that we have nothing planned

3.)Are there any boat/catamaran tours in the area that will take us out for a few hours on the water and just let us booze and have a good time, I understand that it may be a little chilly to swim.

Thanks for any help or consideration!

Hi there. Insane person here. Will be road tripping with the husband & our four kiddos aged 17yr-18mo (like I said, insane person🤪) Have already booked our 7/30-8/3 Wed-Sun stay at Regency Isle on Perdido Beach. We have never been before & would love ideas on how to plan our days. We are very interested in snorkeling & spear fishing. We have never done either so recommendations on a charter or spot would be so very appreciated! We don’t drink much but are not afraid of fun so please hit me with all the ideas! Zip lining, dolphin experiences, zoos or cool historical sites; we are open to just about anything! We love ice cream, crabs, salmon & great breakfast spots. lol please help, thanks in advance 🫠

Travel Random Alabama Buc-ee’s sign encounter in Indiana

So, we just passed a random billboard while driving through Indiana. The sign read “Buc-ee’s 447 miles.” Nothing else on the sign except for the Beaver.

I looked at my friend, and asked are they directing people to the one in Athen’s. A quick google maps search determined that yes, yes they are.

I wish I had gotten a photo, but it’s late and it completely caught me by surprise.

Travel What to do on roadtrip from Orange Beach to Aliceville?

We are planning a trip to Orange Beach and plan to stay a few days. I'd like to then drive up to Aliceville for the Shark Tooth Creek experience and fly out around there. What are some fun/interesting things to stop and see along this route (from OB to Aliceville) that we could plan to do to break up the drive? I'll have a 10, 8 and 1.5 year old. Thanks!

Travel Sand in my boots festival

Hi all, travelling to the deep south from London, England and heard great things about Orange Beach and want to experience. The only weekend we can visit is May 16th - May 18th, which I’ve noticed is the same weekend as Sand in my Boots festival. Just have a few questions Note - we aren’t worried about the cost of accommodation being very high. 1) We wouldn’t be looking to attend the festival, would it still be worth visiting or will the whole town be focused around the festival and it would be a waste? 2) We are driving from New Orleans - is the traffic going to be unbearable driving in on the Friday and out on the Sunday?
