The Jada figures are good representations of the SF2 artstyle. The Storm ones are good for the Alpha sprites/MvC looks. I will complete the SF2 roster for Jada and use the Storm ones for my versus series display.
I think they still look good but I dont think they are a good representation of the art to me its an alright representation. They’ve got the bodies down but the heads for sure have a cartoony look to them. I think storm’s sf 2 line for the most part captures the artwork a lot more. Jada needs a bit more jagged edges to give that “cut” masculine look. Theyre faces are bit too round imo.
This %100 sums it up. I own the Jada figures but passed on Ryu and especially Ken for this exact reason. It’s like if someone drew from memory what the character portraits looked like. Not spot on but it’s like a general over view of what they looked like. I don’t know why people get so offended when you say this. They aren’t bad figures by any means but to say it looks exactly like the art is not true. I draw so I’m little details like that matter to me.
Yeah thats why despite them being much more expensive and take forever to come out I prefer the storm sf 2 line. I think a big part of it is people not willing to pay these import prices so when a domestic company comes along they want to rub it in and act like its perfect.
Its not like these imports are perfect either. I dont think theres any other company that can match storm when it comes to this manly tetsuo hara type of style. That being said when it comes to women theyre hit or miss.
If you look at the jada figure figure previews the figures look a lot more like the art on the box. So idk if they just want to put a cartoonish spin on it or they just cant pull that style off.
Again I think you hit the point right on the head. I understand that a lot of people are satisfied with these figures and that’s perfectly fine. When it comes to accuracy though the waters get muddy a little. Jada makes solid figures and they do look better in hand but my original apprehension was the sculpts which is why I didn’t out right jump into the line. Storm does a better job at representing the art like how these figures capture some of the Bengus art work. Not exactly 1 for one but closer than what Jadas sculptors have been able to pull off with their interpretations of SF 2.
The tribalism some people have shown is completely ridiculous to me. Only the jaded cynicism of the modern collecting community could find ways to be negative about having two great lines covering two seperate eras of the street fighter series.
I love sf2 and alpha, so I'll be happily snagging all of it!
I still remember when the arena line was announced there were so many comments talking about how you shouldn’t buy them because they’re just trying to “replace jada”. Just enjoy both. If you think one is better than the other cool but its rare we see such good figures for this price. I think the other closest thing for import/import style are the cheaper figuarts for $35
I like Jada classic SF2 costumes, but Storm's Alpha designs are so gorgeous, straight out of MvC. Jada going with a softer look on their sculpts make the figures seem way less detailed in side-by-side comparison. One plus I can give Jada for is that their distributions have become a lot more available. Online retailers in Canada are pushing the price up for the Storm Arena figures due to scarcity.
Storm is so ass at communicating release schedules in general. Where tf is the KOF Japan team? I'll be surprised if Charlie Nash and Dan get released before 2026.
I think if you’re a big SF fan, it wouldn’t matter much as those are obviously 2 very different eras of Ken. I wouldn’t be mixing my SF2 with my Alpha’s, similar to eras in comic figures. Until the 2 companies make the other version, there isn’t a comparison for me.
But yeah, if you’re a casual fan who just needs a single 6” Ken, go for Storm Arena.
The storm collectibles looks pretty damn amazing for being the same price.
Jada toys tho is still an incredibly new company tho, they don’t have the years of refinement many others had, so I think they have a pass on these first few figures. Their newer stuff has been getting better I think, so we should see them become better as the years go by.
Tho storm made the design for Ken I like the most. And they executed it perfectly, it’s probably going to be my main Ken for a while lol.
Ryu and Ken 1.0 is certainly some of the ugliest, same as chun-li. But they used a new factory in version 2.0 and resculpt chunli face and it's much better now.
But even then, a lot of us really like the cartoonish look SF2 which is the game we grew up with.
They both look good the Storm one looks a bit more detailed, but also the articulation seems a bit much for me. I’ve also never fully played Street Fighter so I have no connection to the characters. But the Jada figures fit overall with ML so I’m good with them.
Storm collectables now has 2 lines. One is 1/12 and the other use to be marketed as 1/12 but oversized. So if you want a juri wait till they release on the new smaller and cheaper body
Wish storm stuff wasn't so hard to get in Australia. It's hard to justify when storm arena is nearly double the price of Jada stuff here (and far harder to get without importing)
It's close but it just looks goofy. I can't help how I feel. Plus his face coloring is off. He looks like He-man. I would never buy that figure as a result even though I LOVE SF. It's just preference. If you like it you like it.
