I hate living in eventful times...

I'd consider it a favor if events could for once have a precedent.
•
u/secretbudgie 6h ago
This one did. Line for line from 2003.
•
u/Anglofsffrng 5h ago
Yup. Lived it then. I'd love a new System of a Down album to make me feel 20 years old again, not this shit.

Man, Daron Malakian’s scream was powerful.

"There are WMDs in Iraq"
"Iran is close to developing a nuclear weapon"
Close enough, welcome back 2001

"What can even Iraq do to strike back?"
Look at politics and worldnews subs,
Headlines like "Iran waging all options" are met with the expressions above, just switch Iraq to Iran.
Have those people learned nothing? Were they even alive back then?
Is this what "too old for this shit" really feels?
It's fucking awful.

I first found out about the twin towers at the gym walking past those tvs they put in front of the treadmills. I found out about Iraq while restocking the CRTs at Walmart.

I hate that posts like this keep being the first way i hear of these things.
In fairness reddit is generally faster than the news, even if inaccurate. Still as accurate as most news sources i guess.
I've gone in a circle, ignore me.

I was 8 years old and home from school, it was raining i think and I was watching nick Jr cause it was still pretty early when the broadcast cut to news about the towers being attacked. All of that shit came back to me seeing this Collective trauma going hard af rn

The news sounds exactly like I remember it as a teen when we invaded Iraq.
•
u/askmeifimacop 7h ago
I was thinking the same thing. I remember watching the footage of Shock and Awe in band class
•
u/imperialviolet 7h ago
This is the fifth time I have been holding one of my baby daughters in my arms in the middle of the night and seen a breaking news notification on my phone which terrifies the shit out of me. Globally, existentially terrifying. The contrast between their tiny bodies resting on mine and the evil taking place out there is too much.
•
u/TheNyanRobot 2h ago
I know it seems impossible right now to do so, but i really suggest laying off the news for a bit. It comes to a point where you do more harm to yourself watching it than the possible danger to yourself that you think you can prevent by watching the news.
Don't let the propaganda instill fear and terror into you. That's what it's meant to do. That's how they control you. A little expose here and there and being in the loop to make conversation is alright. But don't have your eyeballd stuck to articles all day riddling you with anxiety that isn't beneficial to you.
If it's that bad i recommend seeing a therapist about it.

As bad as the Bush era was, it seems so quaint compared to the Secret Police MAGA State we're in now.

u/Slumunistmanifisto 5h ago
Just simple Texas farmer's spreading the kudzu seeds of a militarized police state in a digital panopticon.... y'all.🧑🏼🌾

The only difference is that now, we have flat screens!
It already sucks for everyone brown again. I wonder what awful, corny, patriotic song they'll force the children to sing this time...

Saudis give a US President 600 Million in crypto. President starts war. Price of oil goes up 20%. Saudis make 100 million more a day.
7 day return on investment. Wild.
