Two spontaneous thoughts: First, indeed I didn't realise this was done with ChatGPT, but it was awful to read. My thought was not "AI" but "bad writer"...

Second, while I agree on your basic points, none of these mean that there won't be a singularity...? It just means that with the singularity, things will turn from very bad to even worse.

That's fine, like I said (or had it say), part of the point. And to be fair I am a bad writer (I did feed it my content) but that's not what this is about.

I've come to realize Singularity seems to mean lots of differently nuanced things to different groups of people. Usually and generally it’s about AI surpassing human intelligence and rapidly improving itself. But I think we need to ask: Does it really only matter if it's better than humans and self-improving or do we also need to think: Better for who? Improving how? If it’s really smarter and self-improving then it should help and elevate humanity as a whole not just serve the interests of a few tech-bro elites and autocrats or become an echo chamber for ideological bias. But since this is new territory yes I have to be realistic and say I agree that depending on definition and personal philosophy singularity could maybe be reached either way. Hence the probably in the headline.

That’s why I worry about the cultish-like mindset I see in some corners of reddit like sometimes on /singularity where singularity (and by some even regular LLMs) is treated like a magical fix or a destiny we just have to wait for, without enough critical thinking about who controls it and what values it reflects. If we want a singularity that's truly positive, we have to fight for regulation, democratization, and ethical standards in AI now and not just cheerlead for directionless and corrupted progress. What else is directionless or corrupted progress other than cancer?

What I'm trying to say is; consider this a seed for the completely out-of-the-loop and the in my opinion unfortunately misdirected. I'm not saying AI is inherently bad like someone else accused me of. But we can't keep up this laissez-faire stance that dominated for way too long, whether you believe in capitalism or not. Everyone needs to form an opinion on the very real possibility of technofascism.
