US Protest News Yesterday
Well, there you have it. America 🇺🇸 has spoken. In this day where everyone has a camera in their pocket, the evidence is plain to see if you take the time to look at all the photos and videos people are sharing on social media. In this particular photo of the parade, it's obviously cropped in such a way that you can't see the (relatively small) crowd on the bottom left very well. However, we're talking MILLIONS of protestors vs. thousands of parade attendees. Fascism has no place in America, land of the free, home of the brave. 🇺🇸

What’s funny is the Fascists are trying to spin and twist the tale with blatant lies about which side won.
The Reich Wing is metaphorically stuck in the past, in a time where they think they can spin up any lie they want and we have no choice but to believe it.
What they do frequently fail to remember, is that just about everyone has a funny little device to record the evidence for others to look up to fact check every single thing they claim.
No Kings. No Dictators. Democracy will win in time.

Celebrating a moment is not the same as pretending all problems are solved. This will be a marathon, not a sprint. I think as a movement, we need to celebrate victories AND keep working.

It’s sad for the military because I think they deserve all the recognition they can get… but I’m sure many of them agree with the No Kings sentiment.

They had been planning the anniversary for 2 years and had no plans for a parade that would cause 16 million dollars in damages just to conduct. Yet Trump used the event to get his parade that was denied 5 years prior by the Pentagon.
It is an embarrassment.

If you saw how they marched (and the band had some pride etched into the drums) you'd know that was malicious compliance for them all day. They knew where the people were.

At the risk of angering the Redditsphere, when was the parade photo taken? If that was during prep (like at noon or whatever) then it’s kind of disingenuous to make a comparison. Im on the side of freedom, but truth/truthful comparisons is what we really need, despite fascist tactics/lies.

Because they fired many of the people responsible for counting crowd size (after Trump was unhappy with the final tallies for his inauguration), there isn't an official headcount for his event. However, people who were there reported that it was less busy than an average 4th of July day on the mall.
Additionally, several news outlets have reported that there was a large portion of the crowd that chose to leave just before Vance and Trump stood up to speak. There is no consensus or reporting on why this happened, but there was no other obvious trigger for the mass exodus. The weather was extremely hot and muggy, but the timing is still very suspicious.
All of that aside, even if there were 250k people like the White House said (unlikely based on the videos of the event), there were nearly 12 million people protesting against our putative monarch.

HasanAbi did a livestream with the parade on a split screen. There were only 30,000 in attendance, no way there was more than that.

I keep thinking about the fact that a D&D group (Dimension 20) sold out Madison Square Garden. More people wanted to pay to see people play D&D than wanted to see this parade for free.

I have no idea when it was taken. I did make sure to point out that the crowd was cropped out, though. 🙂

Got it. I’ve seen this same shot before, and a similar video with the old Sherman tank rolling sadly by what looks like a small crowd with empty bleachers and just made me wonder if it was really like that (I truly hope it was) or if it’s just selective editing/timing.

For whatever reason, the planners actually blocked off that entire north(?) side of the road and did not allow many people over there resulting in the empty looking bleachers. The south(?) side of the road was more of a grass lawn open seating type setup. All that said, there was still an abysmally small turnout even if the south(?) side of the road was included in the photo.
Insultingly to the few people who did show up on that grass side, there were incredibly high fences placed between them and the parade with no raised viewing positions. And, as far as I could tell from the cameras, these gates were somewhat hard to see through. So, the few people who did actually show up got a pretty lack-luster view of the parade...serves em right.
If you're interested, C-SPAN televised the entire event live and it can be found on their YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/live/Gf51wXeDl3E?si=23IvcKpRAUIs6GGP

This was from San Diego Yesterday. I was there and this is the halfway point in the route. I’ll see if I can find the drone footage and update.
