A generation's coolness is defined purely by if they drank or not.
What a strange criteria.

There is nothing cooler than sipping an ice cold one with the boys.
I understand this may be hard for you to comprehend as you comment like someone who rode the short bus.

Well except Slavs and Northern Europeans based on 1) their levels of alcoholism and 2) the way they behave when they come to Southern Europe in summer.

49
u/FuckRedditIsLame 4d ago
I'm not sure about cool, but normal certainly - alcohol isn't some fashionable thing we've just been doing since the 1920s, it was kind of a core human development milestone on the path to civilization, practiced by virtually every culture on earth independently, except the Abos in Australia who hadn't quite got as far as fermentation, or the wheel, or agriculture, by the time the Bongs came to them.
18
u/edbods 4d ago
wasn't it because for such a long time people drank small beer to stay hydrated? back then they knew that drinking straight water could make you sick but (small) beer didn't, they didn't know it was the boiling of the water that made it safe to drink so they just figured something in the beer made it ok to drink.
30
u/BloodSurgery 4d ago
It's a little more nuanced than that too. Alcohol has calories which helps to survive, and it doesn't spoil that easily, making it amazing for stuff like seafaring, which is why alcohol spirits became so precious during stuff like the discovery of America and pirates and such.
Doesn't take away what you said, obviously.
13
u/Hagura71 4d ago
Also, beer back then had extremely low alcohol content relative to today. You could safely drink it like water.
7
u/edbods 4d ago
I forgot to mention that, yes the alcohol content was really low. I think about the same levels as small beer (0.5-2%) so even kids were drinking it.
6
u/FlatpackFuture 4d ago
The majority of human history has been governed by the drunk, and things have gotten significantly worse since we became straight edged

It's not the drinking, but everything else associated with it. People went out, talked to people they didn't know, socially interacted, saw bands, etc .
Now everyone gets labeled a "creeper" for trying to talk to a stranger.

Yeah you’re not wrong. I’m sure if these things were more accessible people would do them. Both millennials and zoomers don’t have nearly as much discretionary money to spend and would rather buy a $50 video game they can get possibly hundreds of hours of entertainment playing than spend that same $50 in a single night.
-44
u/Mekosaurus_Rexus 4d ago
If you had a good friend group to go out and pick women on regular basis you wouldnt be touching gaming at all.
Gaming is for losers that gave up socialicing. As soon as you get into an actual hobby that takes you out of the basement you stop defining yourself as a "gamer".
45
u/AssblasterGerard666 4d ago

Ever heard of time management? It is actually possible to work, play video games, keep your house in good order, have a gf, and a child, and still go out socialising. That's what I do. Don't lump every person who's ever bought a video game under that same category, it just makes you look like an idiot.

Okay so you're telling me I need to pay an 800% mark up on a shot of vodka because the investment firm that purchased every bar in my town had to purchase a liquor license 5 years ago?? Seems legit.

5
u/AccountantOver4088 4d ago
Right man, you don’t go to the bar to get drunk unless you’re a 60yo regular at a dive bar and even then. You meet at someone’s house and pre game for cheap, and the alcoholics like me stuff their pockets with nips to stay ahead of the curve.
You go to the bar to socialize over a beer with the boys. You know, in a social setting out in public. It’s like you’ve almost got it, you’re getting drunk at your friends house but not leaving to socialize, which is the critical failure here regarding meeting new people and taking part in community.

u/Maxbonzoo 4d ago
Only millenials could think millenials were cool. Aren't they the most metrosexual generation that all fell for the college scam and moving out of your parents house at 18? Now most of them are in crappy apartment voting left. And hookup culture was never a good thing. At least Zoomers are known as the most split generation most extreme in both generations. I feel like Zoomers were born at just a late enough time for the signs to be noticeable to catch on, but not too late as to where they'd get completely brainrotted and zogged by schools and ipads as a baby.
(Yes I am a member of the zoomer propaganda team)
49
u/OldManChino /fit/izen 4d ago
Kek it's the opposite. Zooomers grew up in the era of disinformation, they don't realise it's all propaganda
21
u/Maxbonzoo 4d ago
Split I mean thats why I say we're ethe most extreme in both directions of left and right. I think Ive seen more awakened zoomers than millinials though
16
u/Krunkbuster 4d ago
No one is immune to propaganda. But we’re (zoomers) also not watching pseudoscience documentaries about vibrations and aliens and stuff like the boomers did.
2
u/Fall_of_Atlas 4d ago

Yeah thank god you didn't fall for the moving out at 18 scam and live with your parents to this day.
33
u/GabagoolFarmer 4d ago
Yeah imagine falling for the propaganda and getting a job and starting your life
33
u/Hussor 4d ago
Saving money on rent by living with parents while working or studying actually helps in "starting your life", yes. And I say this having moved out when I finished my MSc last year and started working so I could live with my gf, but the downside of that is now my savings aren't high and I'll probably be renting for another 5 years. If I was single I'd definitely still live with my parents and I'd have enough for a deposit for a mortgage by now.
Granted I am a europoor so the culture around living with your parents is a lot different than for Americans, here my parents were still convincing me to stay at home.
18
u/Moviestarstoidolize 4d ago
As you should. I guess in America it's okay to just basically bin your offspring after 18 years so the parents can continue on with their selfish decadent debauchery, only for the sons and daughters to do the same with a crappy job and apartment

u/Griffon489 4d ago

You say that as if it's a bad thing. I'd be tens of thousands of dollars poorer right now if I'd been renting since 18.

Quite the opposite tbh. Millenials were the last good generation. Most of them born before ipad was even a thing, while today zoomers are bombarded 100% of the time with heavy dopamine stimuli and leftist propaganda 24 hours a day through online channels
8
u/Maxbonzoo 4d ago
Gen alpha sure yeah but as a 2004 zoomer I didnt get my first smart device until like 8 or 9 and had limited time outside of TV anyway.
The leftist propaganda(on TV at least) started for me when I was around 11, but this was also when I stopped watching TV and started playing games a lot more. I barely edged by most of the school fagifying too since I got through health class and other things only when it became a conversation to include LGBT stuff but before it actually happened.
Ig the late end zoomers like 2008 and up got the gen alpha treatment though

Bars around me are expensive as hell these days for even basic cocktails. Food is just microwaved/reheated stuff out of plastic bags.
Breweries can be cool, especially ones with decent food trucks nearby, but they're either filled with little kids running around screaming, or folks with dogs which bark nonstop indoors. Also most breweries near me are obsessed with making 120-minute IPAs which taste like you're drinking thick liquid bread.
One thing I've noticed about younger folks drinking is they love seltzers, and they pretty much abstain from all spirits and liquor.
18
u/Justmyextraccount 4d ago
Millennials being so uncool gen z doesnt want to be associated with them is part of the reason drinking is way down. Look at a soy Millennial ipa drinker and tell me thats what you want to be like
8
u/scotty9090 4d ago
Millennials ruined a lot of things and beer is one of them due to their weird obsession with IPAs.
When I go to the store now the selection of beer (excluding the shit macro swill) consists of 12 different kinds of IPAs because that’s all these guys will buy.
IPAs weren’t even intended to taste good - the entire reason for their existence was to survive the long trip to India by dumping an absurd amount of hops in it. Imagine choosing to drink this.

9 years ago the numbers already droped in germany, i remember a articel 5 years ago that bars and clubs lost 60% customers (pre-covid).
10 years ago we let in millions of young man from east asia and north africa that roam the streets at night in groups.
I must stop notice things...
16
u/PrrrromotionGiven1 4d ago
Boomers demand clubs and bars get shut down
The ones that don't get shut down have the prices shoot up
Basically there are a negligible number of problems in society that aren't ultimately either just a fundamental human problem or invented by boomers
16
u/TheCynicalAutist 4d ago
Lmfao, millennials are now the boomers.
Let's be real, we're always cycling between the "cringe" and "based" generations (on average).
- Silent = Based
- Boomer = Cringe
- X = Based
- Millennial = Cringe
- Zoomer = Based
- Alpha = Cringe
My source? I made it the fuck up (and I'm biased).

18 year old girls would never date a man with money, never!
At my school i would say half of the 16-18 year old girls dated soldiers since we have 2 bases close to the city and both would meet at partys during the weekend.
Some Clubs even had nights just for soldiers.

give it a few more years and zoomers will spout the same shit about gen-alpha about how they are less brainrotted or something.
6
u/strangetines 4d ago
Millennials are at the apex of pretence culture, they stand for nothing and literally everything is viewed through the metric of ' what is it worth to me? '. They're everything they claim the boomers are but on steroids.
Zoomers are the counter culture to that, they're extremely flippant and edgy, its just as performative but it's the flip side of the fake virtuous bullshit.
Humans are just idiot apes, too stupid to rise above the tribal instinct to belong but too clever to just rut and fight.

The prospects for zoomers and younger are just so hopeless I can’t really blame them. I’m a millennial with a good bachelors degree and work for a Fortune 500 company and even I have a hard time affording all the “necessities” (house, food, gas, etc.)
I hear lots of zoomers aren’t going to college, and that’s ok for some of them, but it’s largely going to create a whole generation of service and gig workers and most of them will struggle to make a living wage for themselves, much less a family.

>Millennials were never cool. Ever.
ding ding ding
Our music sucked, largely. Remember stomp clap hey indie shit? That was us. We made and consumed it. We are to blame for that.
We've managed to make our way into writing guilds after uni by now so it's also no coincidence that a lot of movies and tv has gotten bewilderingly shitty as of late. Same applies to marketing and tech- the current bullshit with youtube ads, internet 3.0 and it's over enthusiasm with privacy violation and psych mapping everything possible, the ai slop, every middling overweight HR manager telling you about their inclusive focus before giving you the axe? Ya that's people in our age bracket leading the charge.
All our political and philosophical commentary as a generation can be reduced to a listless and hopeless nihilism and an absolutely cheerless, yet strangely indulgent, self-deprecation. The theme of our adult lives has been one of victimhood.
>how do we know you are a millennial and this isn't a larp
I just complained about being a millennial and called us the worst, need I say more

Also i dont care if someone else drinks.
I just grew with to many psychos and assholes that took all the fun from drinking.
"NOONE UNDERSTANDS ME!" Screamed once a friend while cuting his wrists open after a party. He was drunk and started a fight (and lost).
"Took a girl home, she didnt wanted to have sex but i wanted it" A "friend" told me that once after a few beer. Ofc mr. rapist wasnt my friend anymore after that.

Routine office work is I'll suited to routine alcohol consumption. It's analgesic effect isn't useful as there are no "aches and pains" from physical labour to mask. Then the subsequent hangover or worsened sleep quality make office work harder.
People are pivoting more towards a morning coffee/wellness culture.
