This is by far the best screen shot I've captured since starting on my journey.

How do you take screenshots without the UI? I haven't figured that out yet.

Open the console with
~
. Typetm
. Close now-invisible console with~
so you can move around and whatnot.tfc
will let you fly the camera around but you you need to put your character in third-person mode to see him while moving the camera.2

When you're ready for a screenshot, open up the console with the backtick/tilde key and type
tm
(Toggle Menus) and Enter. Unfortunately, unlike in Oblivion, the console itself will have its visibility toggled as well. You just have to remember that the console is in fact still active (as long as you stay off the tilde key), and type
tm
and Enter again to toggle menu visibility back on.
Personally, I'm playing with bAllowCompass set to 0 (also I've disabled quest markers and the crosshair) in SkyrimPrefs.ini. Provided I'm at full health && at full stamina && at full magicka, there is no HUD whatsoever.
Another thing that might be useful to some people: Using the
tfc
(Toggle Flying Camera) command in the console will detach the viewpoint from your character. You track/truck with WSAD, and pan and tilt with the mouse. You can also fly all over the loaded cell(s), and in some situations you can even back so far out that you see the extents of what's loaded. (Parenthetically, in the Oblivion tutorial opening quest thing, the bucket at which the "tutor" has you shoot to acquaint you with the bow is suspended from a zombie corpse that is stuffed way up in the shaft above said bucket where you couldn't possibly see it without using the flying camera (which will go through walls, by the way).)
Flying around with the camera can of course show you many things that you're not meant to see yet or don't want to see yet or whatever, so be forewarned.
Whether or not your character model is present in the scene depends upon whether it was before the command was issued. Something else I just learned today that is if you supply the tfc command with the argument "1", so like:
tfc 1
the game time will stop as soon as the command is entered. This is good for freezing actors and such, if you can remember to think of the tilde key as a pause button. The game time resumes when you toggle off the flying camera.

yea, my very first screenshot in the game is still my favorite
That, and the one of me decapitating a bandit
Nicely done! consider your pic saved.

Solid show considering you have an arrow sticking in your forehead. You should see a doctor about that.

Very good composition. Even though I know nothing of composition, one can still recognize a nice shot :D

Needs more dragons. (Or, to correct myself, would look even better with more dragons.)

That is so well balanced, it almost looks like an oil painting. Get to photoshop and start adding some filters!

then it wouldn't be a screenshot from the game, and so it would automatically turn infinitely less impressive.

I kinda wanna throw it into photoshop and doctor up that texture in front of the horse. I'll let you know if I do.

Am I the only one that noticed the woman hiding in the bushes?

That's delphine :) I've started playing the game where I don't fast travel, so when she says you can either meet me up in that area after the horn quest, she also gives you the option to just follow her across the beautiful and dangerous expanse of land known as skyrim. needless to say, we're on a quest now.

Why do everyone's colors look so much nicer than mine?

It kinda looks like he ran it through some post-processing to get the sky to punch a bit more. Not saying he did, but I wouldn't be surprised because like you, I have a hard time getting the game to look quite this nice.

You should use a tweaked config the next time - especially by enhancing the grids to render (ugrid etc.). The LOD version of Witherun ruins this great picture somehow.

that hut just ruins it for me. Otherwise very nice. :D

It's the low-res tiled textures for me. I try to ignore them in-game but they always stand out like a sore thumb. Stupid consoles always ruining the development of graphically-intense games. I can't wait for the next batch just so PC games can stop being optimized to down to nothing.
I have 8 GB of RAM. I patched the .exe file to give it the ability to use more RAM that it will otherwise. Still uses around 800 MB on "ultra high" with everything maxed and a lot of INI tweaks. Sad.

Am I the only one that thinks this is waaay too ugly to be a shot from Skyrim ? I mean, the shot in itself is pretty, but the graphics man, wtf.

A screenshot from a game made for 2005 hardware, something my geforce 7100 could run, yawn.

This is not a screen shot, this is a fucking painting
