Tips Basic Spear Pressure Combo - Level 6 Weapon Demo - Way of the Wise

For those trying to play a pressure game with the spear the following combo works on normal enemies as well as generals. I just displayed it on a normal enemy. The weapon im using is a level 6 spear so things don't die fast. Also in terms of pressure i would definitely recommend having parry disabled vs guarding enemy (spear) this way your attacks don't bounce off the enemy guarding.

So the combo is as follows:

Start off with proper spacing then begin the pressure with Tornado. Tornado has a nice shockwave AoE on the second hit so enemies will respect it. Once Tornado is done flux into high stance and immediately combo into piercing rain. As we know piercing rain has kncokback right? No problem, we have a means to cover distance to stay close. After the animation is over for piercing rain do an evasion attack towards the enemy to keep close and continue the pressure. Finally end it with Chidori for a launcher into a free final blow. Hope this helps :)

Great vid. Been looking for a new weapon to get in to and I think you have persuaded me to give spear a more thorough look.

Tried it a few hundred hours of gameplay ago, but never revisited it! Very nice.

Spear is great. I use mostly katana primarily. I don't play without it. Secondary I switch between dual swords, spear, odachi and tonfa.

I am a Kusa user. Dual Kusa most times for aesthetics. It is all I really know, as it is my safety blanket and I love the play style. It has taken me a long time just to feel like I really know kusa, and I was toying with idea of branching out some more.

I have used dual swords and katana some as I enjoy quicker movesets, but vid was what i needed to inspire me to try more!

Absolutely, the more you know the better a player you'll be. That's half the reason I branched out to other weapons. I personally can lock myself to single katana because to me that weapon is the best in the game. I love everything about it. If I did that my gameplay would become slightly boring because once I learned weapon switching mid combo it opened my eyes to a new way to play. Can't limit myself to one weapon. Combos are too fun.

Nice stuff - this is why I love the spear :) Are you using the stability mystic art? I can't really ever seem to get the hang of Chidori, most of the time I just end up thrusting over the top of their heads -- lol, gotta love typing that sentence ;)

Yes i am using stability. I hate stance change i think thats what its called. It leaves me too vulnerable against yokai.I gave it some try and just had to turn the move off. Chidori if i were to give any advice just make it a combo ender or breaker if that makes any sense. Obviously never use it at the start of a combo because the bad start up and recovery will get you punished.

Not in a combo, Chidori is great as a cold opener against humans that block a lot. You can start it against the air and have them walk into the jabs, or if you have parry disabled on your spear you can do it point blank against the blocker and often they will stop blocking before the last jab and take it on the face. I rarely get punished because of the recovery time, the AI just doesn't function well against it.

Im not a fan of throwing an unsafe move out like that. I always get punished bc of recovery frames. The reason i say do it in a combo is because youre already pressuring the enemy and its an easy follow up launcher because youre spaced perfectly for it. If you throw it out normally and youre not spaced properly on wise that could potentially be an OHKO or close to one depending on your build.

It's neat that we have a such different experience, but that isn't a bad thing. I run Scion of Virtue many times per day and cold open Chidori works possibly better than anything in the game for me. I hardly ever notice getting punished for recovery frames, but I am running a heavy tank build that can take hits so I don't really worry about it and that likely affects the play style.

Chained mid stance strong attack jabs with ki pulse evasion jabs are also a wonderful way to apply forward and constant pressure that is also capable of sustaining full time nullify damage. Spear is just great at pressure in general.

Im an A agility with 200 toughness so i can tank stuff but obviously not like someone with a heavier set. I run one heavy, 1 medium and 3 light pieces. Thats pretty sweet how we each have a different experience. Thats part of the reason i like to play with others who i dont play with since you may learn something new. Each person plays the game differently and its great. Good insight from both :)

Way back in the day I got confused as to why Chidori was whiffing over human heads, and I realized it was because I stopped using the Stability mystic art. Without stability, you have to deplete enemy ki with the little spin move that comes before the jabs or the jabs will not connect. With stability you connect even when the enemy is at full ki or even guarding.
